Twelve years ago, Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore launched The Walking Dead at Image Comics. Slowly but surely, it became one of Imageâs most popular titles and it transformed into a true cultural phenomenon that includes two blockbuster TV series, video games, collectibles, live events and more. But through it all, the monthly comic book series has continued.
Moore stepped aside as the interior artist after the sixth issue, and Charlie Adlard came on board for The Walking Dead # 7. Adlard has remained with the comic book ever since, and his Walking Dead run is up to 144 consecutive issues…an almost unparalleled achievement in modern comics.
For the upcoming 150th issue of The Walking Dead, Kirkman has lined up Moore for a variant cover that echos the very first cover that he drew for the series.
And for comparisonâs sake, hereâs Mooreâs cover from The Walking Dead # 1.
Moore provided the covers for the first 24 issues of The Walking Dead, and he infamously fell out with Kirkman over compensation for the AMC TV series. However, their lawsuit was resolved and Moore and Kirkman are apparently back on good terms.
Kirkman also lined up his Invincible artist, Ryan Ottley and Jason Latour (Southern Bastards) to provide variant covers for The Walking Dead # 150. Adlard also drew the main cover image for the anniversary issue. You can see all three of those covers in our gallery below.
âIt’s indisputable that reaching issue 150 is a huge achievement in comics,â said Kirkman in a statement. âCharlie Adlard and Team Walking Dead have been working tirelessly for over a decade to get us to this milestone and now it’s time to celebrate. It’s an honor to have comic book pals Jason Latour and Ryan Ottley bringing their vision to these iconic characters. Additionally, words cannot describe how excited I am to have Tony Moore, artist of the first 6 issues, returning to provide a cover for this special event.â
The Walking Dead # 150 will be released on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.
