It’s been 15 years since Lara Croft last appeared on movie screens, but in less than two months, the video game icon is aiming for some cinematic redemption in the brand new Tomb Raider movie. The film heavily borrows from the rebooted video game series and features Alicia Vikander as the new Lara Croft as she embarks on her first adventure.
The latest trailer for the movie offers a taste of Lara’s life before she went out searching for her missing father; we even see her working as a bike messenger. By the time Lara makes it to a distant island in search of her father, she encounters Mathias Vogel (Walton Goggins), a rival archaeologist who wants to use her skills to solve the mysteries that may have unforeseen consequences for Lara and everyone around her.
Additionally, the trailer mashes together the mythology of the two Tomb Raider reboot games by introducing Trinity, the enigmatic organization that may be behind the disappearance of Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West). A lot of the action sequences in this footage should look very familiar to anyone who has played the games… even if those same sequences ended much worse for some of us. Presumably, Lara’s big screen counterpart won’t be meeting her gruesome end during these high risk maneuvers.
Tomb Raider will open in theaters on March 16.
