Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are proud to announce that they have made their final decisions on both their star and their director for the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure, Spider-Man. After a worldwide casting search that narrowed down to a select few, Tom Holland has officially been picked to portray Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming comic book film. The 19-year-old English actor, known mostly for role in The Impossible and How I Live Now, was culled from an impressive group of actors, and obviously had the chops to pull of the web swinger in Marvel’s new adventure.

Sure, he has the Peter Parker face, but does he have the moves to match? According to his Instagram feed, most definitely. Holland posted a few videos showing off his aerial acrobatics, which now seem like a winking nod to fans.
Holland will not be the only up-and-comer attached to the 2017 film. Marvel and Sony have also decided on young director Jon Watts to helm the project. Watts has recently made a bit of a name for himself with recent horror film Clown and the Kevin Bacon indy thriller Cop Car. Producer Kevin Feige seems to have a lot of confidence in the director, as seen in his quote from the subject, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”
Speaking on the announcement, Sony Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman said, “Itâs a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and thatâs why their results are so outstanding. Iâm confident Spider-Man will be no exception. Iâve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tomâs screen tests were special.  All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”
Feige, his Marvel team, co-producer Amy Pascal will oversee the new Marvel-centric direction for the Spider-Man film, while Sony Pictures with finance and distribute the film. Spider-Man is expected to release into theaters July 28th, 2017, but many theorize he will appear in the MCU before that happens.
