Tom Hardy’s Tribute to His Dog Is Emotional And Touching

So many of our favorite actors lead lives of unfathomable luxury and lead lives that feel so separate from and different than our own, but ultimately, they’re people. They experience and feel things like we do. You could almost argue they’re more prone to feeling or are more understanding of it, because emotional awareness is a huge part of their jobs.

Those of you who have ever lost a pet know how much it, to put it bluntly, sucks. It really sucks. It’s a great learning experience that can help prepare us for the inevitable passing of our human loved ones. Sadly, Tom Hardy had to deal with this himself recently: his mix breed dog Woodstock Yamaduki (“Woody Thomas later Woody two shoes and Wu for short,” as Hardy put it) passed away at six years old, and Hardy penned a particularly emotional tribute to his fallen friend, accompanied by a nine-minute slideshow of photo of the two enjoying their lives together (via IndieWire).

Hardy met Woody on the set of Lawless in 2012. The dog was homeless, so Hardy took him in. They’ve been inseparable ever since.

“Woody was the bestest of journey companions we ever could dream of having,” Hardy wrote. “Our souls intertwined forever. A friend told me, He was special bro, a shining example of man’s best friend. He burnt very very bright and, those that burn very bright sometimes burn half as long.”
