Tom Hardy to Make 100 BULLETS Film Adaptation

It seems Tom Hardy is not the type to be happy coasting on the promise of future Mad Max sequels, as he has his sights set on Vertigo Comics for the source material for his next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy and his producing partner Dean Baker are set to do an adaptation of the DC Vertigo comic series 100 Bullets with New Line Cinema. While not yet officially attached, it seems Hardy is also looking to star in the adaptation of the crime thriller created by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso.

The Vertigo title—which ran a fitting 100 issues from 1999 to 2009—included a character named Agent Graves who appeared at the beginning of every story arc. Each subsequent installment would follow a separate main character—all down on their luck—who would be approached by Graves and handed a gun, the identity of the person who ruined their lives, and a box of 100 untraceable bullet. What started off as what seemed to be a series of unrelated stories, soon evolved into an intertwining crime thriller that won both Eisner and Harvey Awards for Azzarello and Risso.

The film was already in the works with New Line—who took over as the overseers of DC’s Vertigo label comics for film and television back in June—with a script by Chris Borrelli in development since before Hardy and crew came along, making 100 Bullets the first Vertigo film fully realized under New Line. (The Joseph Gordon-Levitt helmed Sandman adaptation initially started at Warner Bros. Pictures and made the move to New Line when the Vertigo label changed hands.) No release date or production start-date have been announced, but with the advanced stages of pre-production underway, it is safe to assume they won’t sit on the film for too long.

I, for one, feel that if they don’t cast Malcolm McDowell as Agent Graves, they will have made a mistake.
