Teenager Plays Classical Piano Live Alongside TOM & JERRY Cartoon

If you’re a person of a certain age, you might remember watching Tom and Jerry cartoons over and over again growing up. One of the best known shorts is The Cat Concerto, a wordless animated feature originally released in movie theaters in 1947. It’s so highly regarded that the timeless short even won an Academy Award the following year.

Talented teenage pianist Yannie Tan introduced The Cat Concerto to the YouTube generation thanks to her incredible rendition of the short’s music last year. Yannie mimics the frenetic music perfectly without ever breaking a sweat (or a tuxedo).

The concerto is an arranged version of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt. With over eight million views on the quick concert, it’s obvious Yannie has struck a chord with Tom and Jerry fans both old and new. (Get it? Struck a chord? We’ll see ourselves out.)

Yannie is obviously a Tom and Jerry fan, also taking on a Chopin medley arrangement based on the 1964 Chuck Jones short Snowbody Loves Me. Like The Cat Concerto, she has fun with the performance, wearing a Tom and Jerry costume and flashing some big smiles.

Yannie’s grace and ease playing to the classic cartoons showcases her considerable talent. Her fingers dance across the keyboard just as lightly as Jerry in his little cheese tutu. She also features more classical and traditional concerts on her channel if you’re a fan of gorgeous, calming piano music.
