The Fourth Doctor is making a comeback! Titan Comics has revealed that Tom Baker’s wildly popular incarnation of the Doctor will headline his own miniseries, titled Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor. Also returning to the Fourth Doctor’s side for his new adventure will be Sarah Jane Smith, as was portrayed by the late Elizabeth Sladen.
The latest Doctor Who comic will be a five-issue miniseries written by Gordon Rennie and Emma Beeby, with art by Brian Williamson. The story will take place in Victorian England and set the Doctor and Smith against “a mysterious woman [who] commands a hidden army in a house of the blind.” According to the official description, “Scryclops stalk the streets… and something alien and terrible screams from prehistoryâwith a hunger that cannot be satisfied!”
Titan Comics also shared a few of the Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor coversâincluding Alice X. Zhang, Brian Williamson, Jay Gunn, and Matt Baxterâas well as a photo variant featuring Baker and Sladen as the Doctor and Sarah Jane. You can see all of those covers in our gallery below.
The history of Doctor Who comics dates all the way back to the ’60s, but Baker’s seven year stint as the Fourth Doctor meant that his version of the character headlined some of the most iconic Doctor Who adventures during the late ’70s and ’80s. Even after Baker moved on from the role, his Doctor continued to occasionally star in his own comic book stories.
Titan Comics is currently publishing Doctor Who ongoing series about the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctors, in addition to a miniseries starring the Eighth Doctor. Given the longevity of this franchise, other standalone Doctor Who miniseries featuring previous Doctors seems likely to happen again in the near future.
Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor # 1 will be released in March 2016.
