Three New “Doctor Who” Novels Hit the Shelves in April

Books

We’re all very excited for the premiere of the second half of the seventh series of Doctor Who, as surely most of you are as well. The first episode, “The Bells of St. John,” will air Saturday, March 30th, with new episodes following each Saturday for eight straight weeks. But, if you’re too excited and can’t wait a week for episode two, then you are in luck: three (yes, 3) new books featuring the Eleventh Doctor will hit bookshelves on April 2nd, the Tuesday following the premiere.

The novels are The Plague of the Cybermen by Justin Richards, The Dalek Generation by Nicholas Briggs, and Shroud of Sorrow by Tommy Donbavand. All three authors are veterans of sci-fi/horror writing. Richards has written several Doctor Who tie-ins and is the creative consultant for BBC Books’ range of Who novels; Donbavand is known for writing the childrens’ horror novels Scream Street and, apparently, a huge fan of the show; and Briggs should be a stranger to no one familiar with Doctor Who, having written about Doctor Who since the ’80s, being the executive producer of the Big Finish audio range, and providing the voice for practically every monster in the series since 2005, notably the Daleks.

From the press release:
In Doctor Who: The Dalek Generation, we find the Doctor investigating a world where the Daleks suspiciously seem to be a force for good. In Doctor Who: Shroud of Sorrow, the aftermath of JFK’s assassination is the setting for an attack by an alien Shroud feasting on the grief of a world in mourning. In Doctor Who: Plague of the Cybermen, the Doctor discovers the residents of a 19th century village beset by a plague that causes its victims to leave their graves. As we follow the Doctor through new catastrophes in history, on earth, and in space, reading Doctor Who: Plague of the Cybermen, Doctor Who: The Dalek Generation, and Doctor Who: Shroud of Sorrow might just be the next best thing to traveling around in a TARDIS, sonic screwdriver in hand and will leave fans eagerly awaiting Broadway’s fourth all-new Doctor Who adventure, acclaimed science fiction author Alastair Reynolds’s Doctor Who: Harvest of Time, featuring the Third Doctor, in June.

So there we have it. Three books to add to the ever-growing collection of ancillary Doctor Who material and one on the horizon for June. Which one are you most excited for?

Can’t wait! But I’m a bit bummed they’re not the small hardcovers like they’ve been putting out. These are just normal paperbacks 🙁 So sad to see that format gone.

  2. Josh Zeller says:

Awesome. The Dalek one sounds like it could be fun.
