Those Guys in the Intro to STREET FIGHTER II Finally Have Names Now

When Street Fighter II debuted in 1991, not even Capcom could have predicted that the game would become a blockbuster hit. If they’d known that Street Fighter II’s characters would become almost instantly iconic, then it’s likely that the opening cinematic for the game wouldn’t have been two random dudes beating each other up. After 25 years, however, Capcom is finally giving these mystery fighters names and backgrounds.

Via Gamespot, the identities of the two characters were revealed on the Street Fighter subreddit. Max is the fighter on the left, and Scott is the one on the right at the beginning of the video below. Judging from that brief clip, it was a pretty one-sided fight in Scott’s favor!

Capcom also released two character photos of Max and Scott from Street Fighter V. Scott is largely unchanged from his previous look, whereas Max now has a shaved head and a belt that helpfully reminds everyone of who he is.

Street Fighter V Scott Street Fighter V Max

Why would Capcom introduce Max and Scott now? Gamespot theorizes that the two characters may play a role in Street Fighter V’s upcoming free story mode expansion. That seems logical, but it’s also possible that Max and Scott may eventually become playable characters as well. Their designs aren’t quite as dynamic as some of the other fighters, but we’d never turn down a chance to expand the Street Fighter V roster!
