How to Make Thor’s Dual Swords From THOR: RAGNAROK

Later this fall, Marvel’s Thor will be battling on the big screen in Thor: Ragnarok. And for reasons that should be clear to anyone who has seen Ragnarok‘s trailers, the God of Thunder will be forced to go into action without his legendary hammer, Mjölnir. In the comics, the Odinson has taken an axe called Jarnbjorn as his new signature weapon. But in the MCU, Thor will fight with dual swords — their first-ever appearance. But that didn’t stop the YouTube channel Man At Arms from recreating Thor’s swords two months before their cinematic debut!

In the latest episode of Man at Arms: Reforged, Matt and Kerry Stagmer of Baltimore Knife and Sword took on the challenge of building Thor’s swords even though the blades have only been on screen for seconds. Because the weapons are a pair, two blades needed to be completed — literally double the amount of work that usually goes into a recreation. That’s why over half of the video is devoted to the creation of the first sword, which was intricately layered, treated, and sculpted to be as close to its cinematic counterpart as possible.

No detail was too small to be ignored. The finished pieces even had the patterns on the handle and crossguards. This was truly a team effort, and looked like one of Man at Arms’ trickier creations. But in the end, both swords came out magnificently, and so soda bottles and assorted fruits needed slicing.
