New Images and Character Posters from THOR: RAGNAROK

Raise your chalice and rejoice! For today, Nerdist is unveiling treasure troves of goodies from our visit to the set of Thor: Ragnarok. Last fall, I set out to Gold Coast, Australia, to investigate the much-anticipated third installment of the Thor franchise. While there, I spoke with director Taika Waititi and the many of the film’s stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, and Tessa Thompson. I even stepped onto the sets of Asgard and the strange new planet Sakaar, which you can see in the gallery below.

Nerdist is bringing you a slew of news from this out-of-this-world visit. Here, we present a bevy of new images from behind the scenes of Thor: Ragnarok, along with some splashy new character posters that hint at the film’s comic book muses.

Speaking to Thor: Ragnarok’s inspirations, Waititi said, “We pulled from Planet Hulk. And we pulled a little bit from God Of Thunder.” He also pulled inspiration from the colorful and jam-packed panels created by comic artist Jack Kirby. “I just sort of looked at all the stuff that I personally feel is the coolest things in the comics. Like, ‘We should have that! We should have that! We should have that! We should have that!'” But Waititi didn’t constrain himself to the comics alone, as you’ll see in our other coverage from the set visit.

“You can stay true to the comics,” Waititi said, “But you could ruin things by staying too true. With every comic run, there’s always a retelling. And you see that with all the main characters. There’s rebirths. There’s alternate universes.” Thor: Ragnarok will be a sort of rebirth, offering thrilling new characters, and fresh takes on established ones. And the whole cast gets a bit of what the design team calls “Kirby Krackle” in the latest character posters.

“This film is so crazy,” Waititi emphasized,  “And so eclectic, and there’s so many amazing things. Think about the characters: Hulk, and a new style of Banner that we’ve never seen before, new Thor, Hela, Loki’s in there, obviously, then Grand Master.”

Waititi concluded, “It really is–to my mind–the craziest of the Marvel films. In a good way!”

Thor: Ragnarok opens November 3rd. Advance tickets are now on sale wherever tickets are sold. Look for more from Nerdist’s set visit soon.
