THOR: RAGNAROK Might Have Its Director in Taika Waititi

The next installment in Marvel‘s Thor franchise might be going to the ends of the universe for its latest director, with reports that New Zealand’s Taika Waititi is going to helm the third film in the series, titled Thor: Ragnarok.

Waititi is best known for his work with fellow Kiwi, Jermaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), having directed Clement in both Eagle vs Shark and What We Do In The Shadows. This would be the third director to lead the films. Kenneth Branagh was in the director’s chair for the first movie in 2011, and Alan Taylor director 2013’s Thor: The Dark World.

Chris Hemsworth, who was put on this planet to play the Norse god Thor, is still a big part of the Marvel Universe, and will continue in the role, both in this film and The Avengers movies. Jamie Alexander has already said Lady Sif has a “pivotal part” in the film.

You’ve actually seen Waititi in a big-time superhero movie before, as he was in The Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds. He is also currently directing Hunt for the Wilderpeople, a movie in which a national manhunt is ordered for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush.” That movie is scheduled to be released some time in 2016.

Thor: Ragnarok has a scheduled release date of November 3rd, 2017.
