This Week at NerdMelt Theater!

We don’t like to pat ourselves on the back, but we’re having the best time at our little corner of the world on Sunset Blvd between Fairfax and La Brea in Los Angeles. You must come and visit us! Here’s what we’ve got going on this week!

Tonight at 8pm, it’s the opening of “Pretty? Pretty?” The Divine Art Show!

“Pretty? Pretty?” is the phrase uttered by Divine as Dawn Davenport, when her bandages are removed after a disfiguring acid attack in John Waters’ 1974 film, Female Trouble.

Pretty? Pretty? A Divine Art Show is a celebration of this iconic actor, pop star and cinematic legend, as interpreted by an eclectic, wide-ranging collection of artists, opening this Friday at 8pm at NerdMelt!

Opening night festivities will feature select artists in attendance (schedules permitting), special guest stars, live DJ, free booze, drag’s finest performers and more special Divine-themed surprises.

FREE!

Saturday at 8pm is the epic return of Carnyville!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a carnival. Creepy dudes running creepy rides while creepy clowns smile creepily. David Koechner (Anchorman, The Naked Trucker & T-Bone) and Dana Gould (The Simpsons, Conan) join forces to recreate the golden era of life along the midway, with stand-up, special guests, music, and a creepy sense of creepitude. Join us, won’t you? Featuring Paul Greenberg, Renee Albert, Mark Fite, Jim Turner, The Poubelle Twins, Andy Paley and The Loaded Dice Orchestra!

$10

Sunday at 5pm is The Nerdist Writers Panel!

Spend your Sunday afternoons learning from the best at the Nerdist Writers Panel! Join moderator Ben Blacker as he hosts esteemed panelists discussing topics like different types of writing, how they got started, what inspires them, the business side of writing, and more. Panelists will also answer your questions and give some helpful tips and tricks! This series is a must for any hopeful writer in LA, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit 826LA.

Scheduled to appear: Leigh Dana Jackson (Alcatraz; No Ordinary Family), Adam Glass (Supernatural), and Josh Berman (creator, Drop Dead Diva).

Then at 7pm on Sunday, it’s a night of chiptune music with Club Microwave!

This night of chiptune music, curated by 8 Bit Weapon and ComputHer, features Jim Cuomo (Australia), legendary chip music composer and creator of the Defender of the Crown game music score; Virt! (Los Angeles), world famous chipmusic composer; 1000 Needles (Los Angeles), new to the chip rock scene, but ready to make a statement with their chip-infused pop rock gems; and DJ Mike Haggar (Metro City), a staple of Club Microwave since 2003, spinning the best Chipmusic/Micromusic/IDM/Electro dance music all night long!

Then at 9:30pm on Tuesday, we have a screening of Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts!

Be there for the LA premiere of Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, a feature length documentary that examines the life, work and ideas of comic book writer and cyberpunk philosopher, Warren Ellis. The film features extensive interviews with Warren himself, as well as friends and collaborators like Joss Whedon, Helen Mirren, Wil Wheaton, Patton Oswalt, and many more.

Catch the film hot off its premiere at the Napa Valley Film Festival and stick around afterwards for a Q&A with the film’s director Patrick Meaney and a TBA special guest!

Wednesday at 8:30, it’s The Meltdown with… Pete Holmes?

Pete Holmes has an album coming out (Impregnated with Wonder), and to celebrate, we’re letting one of our favorite guests take over for the night! Come see as Pete hosts some of his favorite comics: Jonah Ray, James Adomian, Brendon Walsh, Kumail Nanjiani, Joe Mande, and Chelsea Peretti!

Then finally, on Thursday, it’s the return of Enter Spider!

It was so fun, so bizarre, and since so many people requested it…. he’s doing it again!
You’re entering a stand-up comedy show on the edge of time and space; in a place where light and shadow are often mistaken for a biracial gay couple; where the lineup of comics are from all walks of life… and death. There is no two drink minimum here, there is only the maximum occupancy of the Imagination! You are entering… ENTER SPIDER.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

As always, check us out online at our site and on Twitter, and if you need us, you can find us in the back of a comic book store, laughing our faces off.
