This Week at NerdMelt Theater!

Can you believe that it’s already August? We can’t either! (Unless you responded that you can believe it’s August, in which case we’ll just have to politely disagree)  Anyways, we have a fantastic week of shows here at NerdMelt Theater to ring in the new month! Enjoy!

Friday at 7:30, learn something new at The Friday Forty!

Scott Gimple and Dave Holmes host this current-affairs sketch-comedy quiz show where the performers get a little liquid courage to help them answer 40 questions about the events of the last 7 days!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Friday at 9:00, see the toast of San Francisco at The Business!

San Francisco’s The Business returns to LA this month bigger and better than ever. All Business members will be in attendance including new recruits Chris Thayer and Caitlin Gill. Along with them comes very, very special guests Guy Branum (Chelsea Lately, No Strings Attached) and filmmaker/actor/comedian Bobcat Goldthwait!

The Business is Alex Koll, Bucky Sinister, Chris Garcia, Sean Keane and new additions Chris Thayer and Caitlin Gill. All seasoned stand ups, The Business is the laboratory for their comedy experimentation, giving the audience a chance to see great talents stretching the form. With a well curated roster of guests, this show is an unparalleled showcase of quality funny, recognized with a “Best of” Award from the SF Weekly’s 2012 Best of SF edition.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Saturday at 9:00, enter the Joke Machine!

Three comics battle in the LA’s original roast-meets-gameshow juggernaut Joke Machine. Comics perform new material on an assigned topic, enter a wildcard challenge to do anything from crowd work to reviewing a movie, and gain bonus points for relentless slamming– all in under a minute! The show features a changing cast of LA’s best and brightest. This epic battle pins Brody Stevens vs Howard Kremer vs Chris Fairbanks with your host Bil Dwyer and announcer Tom Sharpe. Who will survive the comedy blitzkreig?

$8 in advance, $10 at door!

Sunday at 7:00 is Matt Mira’s Day Off!

Matt Mira of the Nerdist Podcast needs a Day Off, so we decided to give him Sundays at Nerdist Theater. Come watch Mira and Paul Cibis host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material (Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani are frequent drop ins), and the magic that is live comedy.

Free!

Monday at 9:00 is a meeting of Harmontown!

People always ask us “What is Harmontown?”, and that’s a tough question to answer, but here’s the closest thing we’ve got: we gave the creator of Community a night to do whatever he wanted, and what we got was Harmontown.

Attend a town meeting in a land free of brevity, where Mayor Dan Harmon and Comptroller Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line is it Anyway) take another small, vodka-soaked step toward colonizing the moon. Evening may include ineffectual rants, songs, shameful stories, special guests (Allison Brie, Donald Glover, and Gillian Jacobs have all stopped in), forehead sweat and repeated exposure to the phrases “like” , “uh”, “sort of” and “you know.”

$10!

Tuesday at 6:00, celebrate The Mutant Season With Gil: The Awesome 10th Birthday Extravaganza Show!

Tuesday at 6:00 celebrate The Mutant Season With Gil: The Awesome 10th Birthday Extravaganza Show!

The Mutant Season is a Nerdist Industries podcast on which grade-schooler Gil Dominguez-Letelier talks to adults who have cool jobs and shares the awesome things he likes with you, the listeners at home! (Like, did you know that the raddest animal ever is a Cat-zilla? That’s a fact!)
On Tuesday, August 7th at 6pm, The Mutant Season will for the first time be recorded in front of a live audience. It also happens to be Gil’s 10th birthday, which means it’ll be a great time since THERE WILL BE CAKE!!!
So, come on down to the Nerdist Theatre at Meltdown Comics to celebrate with Gil, sidekick Mo Fathelbab, producer Katie Levine, a myriad of special guests, and of course CAKE!!! It’s fun for the whole family.

Guests scheduled to appear include: Pete Holmes, Geoff Johns, Jonah Ray, Matt Bennett & Justin Willman!

$5!

Tuesday at 8:00, witness Justin Willman’s Magic Meltdown!

Join Justin Willman (Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, Justin Willman’s Magic Meltdown on The Nerdist Channel) as he and his friends present a cataclysmic evening of prestidigitation, make-believe, and excessive sleight-of-mouth. You’ll spend the entire time wondering “how’d they do that?” and gasping at the wonders of…. MAGIC! Guests include comedian Dwayne Perkins, magician Chris Korn and magician Chad Allen!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Wednesday at 8:30, come on down to The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

This week, your captains of industry, Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani, host Julian McCullough, Tom Segura, Dan Mintz, Justin Ian Daniels, Jen Kirkman, Nate Craig, Chelsea Peretti and perhaps a special surprise…

$8!

Thursday at 9:00, find out how Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend!

Alison Rosen (The Adam Carolla Show) won’t help you move but she will perform her super-popular new podcast, Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend, live. Featuring a very special guest or two, embarrassing confessions, probing discussion and a sombrero. Featuring special guest Pete Holmes!
