This Week at NerdMelt Showroom: Women LIVE and Joke Machine!

NerdMelt Showroom

This week at the NerdMelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles, the sketch comedy group Women debuts their live show at NerdMelt, Joke Machine returns, and more, moar, mowwwwr!!!!

Saturday at 7pm is Newsreaders Night!

To celebrate the premiere of Newsreaders – a brand new Children’s Hospital spinoff on Adult Swim, we’re having a Newsreaders night at NerdMelt! You’ll see episodes before anyone else, you’ll get comedy from some of its stars, and you’ll hear from the creators themselves!

Newsreaders is an absurd take on the news magazine television format.  It’s a show that goes behind the stories nobody else thinks are stories… because they’re not. From the creative team behind Adult Swim’s Emmy Award-winning comedy, Childrens Hospital, Newsreaders is the newsmagazine with more masturbation jokes than any other news magazine*

*except for PBS’ Frontline

FREE.

Saturday at 9pm is WOMEN: Live!

In 2013, WOMEN will no longer lurk in the shadows of the online video world. This January 12, Pat Bishop, Dave Ross, Jake Weisman, and Allen Strickland Williams will take to the NerdMelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics for a live show. But don’t worry, there’ll still be some videos. And some #$%^. And some death. (Death is inescapable.)

In addition to videos and live sketches/yelling, we’ll also have appearances from Yassir Lester, Megan Amram, and Joe Wengert. All of those people are awesome.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Sunday is Nerdist Open Mic!

Come watch Matt Mira and Paul Cibis host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material (Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani are frequent drop ins), and the magic that is live comedy.

FREE.

Tuesday is Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction!

Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction is a comedy show (and soon-to-be podcast) founded in Seattle, created & hosted by Bryan Cook. Each event features 10 comics, writing and performing Erotic Fan Fiction pieces, based on their whims or audience suggestions. It’s really stupid. CEFF returns for the first boner-laden LA show of 2013!
Featuring the ridiculous lineup of: Kurt Braunohler, Eli Braden, Andres du Bouchet, Matt Knudsen, Laura Crawford, Emily Maya-Mills, Dax Jordan, Dan Telfer, Mo Welch, and Rob Gleeson.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Wednesday is The Meltdown Show with Jonah and Kumail!

Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani helm the good ship Meltdown every single Wednesday, to host the show that’s been named one of the best live shows in LA by LA Weekly, Splitsider, and more. At The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, you’ll see some of the biggest comics, up and coming acts just before they get famous, and as always, surprise drop-ins that will knock your socks off.

This week, hosts Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani welcome Tommy Johnagin, Karl Hess, Josh Fadem, Kurt Braunohler, Nick Vatterot, an exclusive screening of an Adult Swim show… and more surprises.

$8.

Thursday at 7:30pm is Joke Machine!

Three comics battle in the LA’s original roast-meets-gameshow juggernaut Joke Machine. Comics perform new material on an assigned topic, enter a wildcard challenge to do anything from crowd work to reviewing a movie, and gain bonus points for relentless slamming — all in under a minute! The show features a changing cast of LA’s best and brightest. This week catch Graham Elwood, Johnny Pemberton, and Hampton Yount! Hosted by the fearless Bil Dwyer. Who will survive the comedy blitzkreig?

$8 in advance, $10 at the door .

Thursday at 9pm is Set List!

From the minds of Paul Provenza and Troy ConradSet List is back from sold-out shows at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, and a regular run in London. Top comics are given a never-before-seen “set list” of strange and outrageous topics the second they walk onstage, and perform seamlessly as if it’s the act they normally do, while the audience follows the list on the projection screen. Complete comedy in the moment.

Featuring Carlos Alazraqui, Chris Fairbanks, Matt Kirshen, Eric Lampaert (from the UK), Bob Rubin, and Kira Soltanovich! With special musical guest Henry Phillips!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Friday is The Friday Forty!

Scott Gimple and Dave Holmes host this current-affairs sketch-comedy quiz show where the performers get a little liquid courage to help them answer 40 questions about the events of the last 7 days!

Featuring TBS’ The Wedding Band‘s Derek Miller, Peter Cambor, Kathryn Fiore, and Jenny Wade!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.
