This Week at NerdMelt Showroom: Nerdist Writers Panel, What’s New, Prompter, and more!

NerdMelt Showroom

How great has 2014 been?!?! So great, right? We know! And we plan on keeping the good times rolling here at NerdMelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles this week with shows like Nerdist Writers Panel, What’s New, Prompter, and more!

January 12th at 5pm it’s Nerdist Writer’s Panel!

Nerdist Writers Panel NerdMelt Showroom

The Nerdist Writers Panel series is an informal chat moderated by Ben Blacker (co-creator of The Thrilling Adventure Hour; writer for Supah Ninjas, Supernatural, among others) with professional writers about the process and business of writing. Covering TV, film, comic books, music, novels, and any other kind of writing about which you care to hear.

And on Sunday, January 12th see Michelle Ashford (creator, Masters of Sex), Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker (creators, $#*! My Dad Says), and Joe Henderson (Graceland; White Collar).

The line-up is subject to change. And as always, proceeds from the live panels benefit 826LA, the national non-profit tutoring program.

$15.

January 12th at 8pm it’s Harmontown!

What is Harmontown? It’s awesome. It’s unique. It’s one of a kind. It’s something only Dan Harmon (creator of Community and Rick and Morty) and Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line is it Anyway) can do. It’s a different show every time and it’s every week. Lucky us! Playing Dungeons and Dragons? It’s happened. Dan Harmon freestyle rapping? Yup, that too. Calling Chevy Chase from stage? Happened…more than once. A celebrity guest? Allison Brie, Donald Glover, and Gillian Jacobs among others have all stopped in. Getting super personal with an intimate audience? Always. It’s Harmontown. It’s awesome. It’s unique. Don’t miss a single week. Subscribe to Harmontown on iTunes today!

$10.

January 13th at 7pm it’s Nerdist Open Mic!

nerdmeltopenmic NerdMelt Showroom

Come watch Kyle Clark and John Ungaro host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material, and the magic that is live comedy.

Free.

January 14th at 9pm it’s What’s New!

What’s New is a live standup show and Nerdist Industries podcast (subscribe to the podcast here) featuring amazing stand up comedy. Described as a “must-listen for any would-be standup comedian, or standup nerd…” by Splitsider.com, What’s New is new material. It’s a headliner. It’s insight into the process. Also, it’s FREE, and there’s some FREE BEER too. Yes. Yes. Yes.

January 14, catch the new hotness from: Dan St Germain (Comedy Central, Conan), Fahim Anwar (Comedy Central, Just for Laughs), and Zoltan Kaszas (winner 2013 Seattle International Comedy Competition). Plus, a headlining set from Mike Lawrence (Conan, Comedy Central, his album Sadamantium, recorded right here at NerdMelt!). And a bonus set from Streeter Seidell (CollegeHumor)!

With host Christian Spicer (Double Jump, IMPRO(vs)TANDUP).

Free.

January 15th at 8:30pm it’s The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

Meltdown NerdMelt Showroom

Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani helm the good ship Meltdown every single Wednesday, to host the show that’s been named one of the best live shows in LA by LA Weekly, Splitsider, and more. At The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, you’ll see some of the biggest comics, up and coming acts just before they get famous, and as always, surprise drop-ins that will knock your socks off.

$8.

January 16th at 9pm it’s Prompter!

Troy Conrad‘s newest creation!  Comics use a teleprompter to deliver a TED Talk-style presentation.  When the teleprompter unexpectedly freezes, the performer must rely on their ability to improvise and continue their talk on the subject until the prompter comes back on.  How much fun can comics have with a supposedly “broken” teleprompter and an absurd?  A lot, it turns out.

Featuring presentations by: Baron Vaughn, Kipleigh Brown, Emo Phillips, Rick Overton, and Matt Kirshen!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

January 17th at 8pm it’s 3 Truths and 1 Lie!

3 Truths and 1 Lie is a truly outrageous storytelling show. 4 performers will be telling seemingly true tales, but 1 of them will be lying to you. However, unlike your past relationships, you’ll get to call this person a big fat liar right to their face (and all of the Twittersphere). You like stories, but you like being right even more, don’t you? Join us and find out if you can really tell if someone is faking it.

Our storytellers: Tone Bell, Arden Myrin, Louis Virtel, Chris Garcia, Streeter Seidell, and Michael Duggan. Music by Cossby Sweater. Hosted by Kristen Studard and Edward Salazar.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Thank you all so much for your continued support of the showroom. Follow us on Twitter and track us on our blog for more info about any of these shows!
