August 3rd at 9pm it’s Literary Death Match L.A., Episode 23!

Literary Death Match, now in 48 cities worldwide, was called “the most entertaining reading series ever” by the LA Times. The live show brings together four authors to read their most electric writing for seven minutes or less before a panel of three all-star judges. After each pair of readers, the judges take turns spouting hilarious, off-the-wall commentary — in the categories of literary merit, performance and intangibles — then select their favorite to advance to the finals. The two finalists then compete in a vaguely literary competition to determine who takes home the Literary Death Match crown.

JUDGES:

Literary Merit: Will McCormack, actor, producer and co-writer of Celeste and Jesse Forever;

Performance: Andrea Letamendi, clinical psychologist, Under the Mask scribe, and Bat Girl’s therapist; and

Intangibles: Sara Benincasa, award-winning comedian, author (of Agorafabulous!) and host.

READERS:

Amber Benson, director/author (The Golden Age of Death)/actor (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Brian Finkelstein, writer, comedian and Los Angeles Story SLAM host and Moth Mainstage storyteller

Playing Dungeons and Dragons? It’s happened. Dan Harmon freestyle rapping? Yup, that too. Calling Chevy Chase from stage? Happened…more than once. A celebrity guest? Allison Brie, Donald Glover, and Gillian Jacobs among others have all stopped in. Getting super personal with an intimate audience? Always. It’s Harmontown. It’s awesome. It’s unique. Don’t miss a single week.

Picture This NerdMelt Showroom

Picture This! is a new show from Sam Varela, Brandie Posey, and Grif Kimmins: two girls and an animator who want to push the boundaries of what a comedy show can be.

Picture This! is a live comedy show with stand-ups performing while they are drawn live by some of the best animators, cartoonists, and other artists in Hollywood, CA. The comedians don’t know what the animators are drawing and the animators don’t know how the comedians will react. It may be weird. It may different. But it will be a unique comedy experience every time! After performing for a year in L.A., New York, Toronto, and Australia Picture This! is now at the Nerdist Showroom — so, come see the show that everyone will be talking about!

August 9th, catch: Jonah Ray, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Byron Bowers, Dave Ross, Ricky Carmona, and Clare O’Kane!
