This Week at NerdMelt Showroom: Iron Comic, Genre Smash, Beth Stelling, and more!

NerdMelt Showroom

We’ve entered the next generation of gaming. It’s here! The PlayStation 4 is out and the Xbox One comes out next week. ARE. YOU. KIDDING!?!?!?! Good thing we have a bunch of great shows this week to keep the laughs rolling. And don’t worry, you can come to every show this week, you don’t have to pick just one. Sweet!

November 16th at 8pm it’s Iron Comic!

Iron Comic is a fast-paced comedy game show with no stakes where 5 comedians rush to write routines in 8 minutes from topics suggested by the audience. At the end of each show, an Iron Comic is chosen. Inspired by Iron Chef, each comic is forced to craft jokes while the clock is ticking.

Iron Comic is hosted by Nato Green (Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, Laughter Against the Machine, SF Sketchfest), accompanied by house band DJ Douggpound (Tim & Eric, Portlandia, Funny or Die).

With special guests Kurt Braunohler, Morgan Murphy, Laurie Kilmartin, Todd Glass, and Ian Edwards, plus music from Zach Sherwin and Karen Kilgariff!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

November 18th at 7pm it’s Nerdist Open Mic!

Come watch Kyle Clark and John Ungaro host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material, and the magic that is live comedy.

Free.

November 19th at 7pm it’s Writer’s Guild Foundation presents Genre Smash with Ash Miller & Zack Stentz!

If you’re looking for the geekiest meet-cute you can find, you won’t do much better than Ash Miller and Zack Stentz, who met in an online chat about Star Trek and soon became writing partners. Since then, the two have worked on such geektastic properties as the X-Men franchise, Fringe, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Thor. They’re also working on the upcoming Fall Guy movie.

Here’s why Ash and Zack are truly awesome, though: They’re joining us for the inauguration of Genre Smash, our new series where we chat with writers of the finest science fiction, fantasy, horror and comedy working in the industry today.

Even better: We’ll be meeting in the NerdMelt Showroom, located in West Hollywood’s historic Meltdown Comics. See you there, earth creature.

$15.

November 19th at 9pm it’s NerdMelt presents An Evening with Beth Stelling!

NerdMelt presents a night of standup with one of our favorites Beth Stelling (Conan, Just For Laughs in Montreal) and Ian Karmel & Emily Maya Mills!

November 21st at 7pm it’s Baby Talk with Dan Levy!

Brand new father Dan Levy and two comedian friends work out new material, then sit down with a child between the ages of 5-12 years old, in hopes of getting into their mind so Dan can find out what he’s in for.

$8 in advance, $10 at the door.

November 21st at 9pm it’s RISK! Storytelling Show!

RISK! is the show where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public. Stories they’d normally only tell to close friends. At the RISK! Live shows, the brightest stars of TV, film and literature drop their usual act and show a side of themselves you’ve never seen before.

November 21, catch: Jake Fogelnest (The Fogelnest Files, writer for Billy On The Street), Dylan Brody (performed with David Sedaris, Off Ramp on KPCC), Kiran Deol (Modern Family, Weeds, Newsroom, Parenthood), Connor Habib (writer, lecturer, sex expert), and Julie Brister (Onion News Network, UCB).

November 22nd at 7pm it’s Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction!

Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction is a comedy show and Nerdist podcast founded in Seattle, created & hosted by Bryan Cook. Each event features 10 comics, writing and performing Erotic Fan Fiction pieces, based on their whims or audience suggestions. It’s really stupid.
