This Week at NerdMelt Showroom!

We are thrilled that it’s finally starting to feel like Autumn in Los Angeles! (On a related note, “Autumn in Los Angeles” is also the sequel to Richard Gere’s Autumn in New York we’re pitching…) We’ve got an excellent week for you down at the Showroom so stop by!

Friday at 8:00 is An Evening With Kumail Nanjiani!

Kumail Nanjiani is just about to record his Comedy Central hour special, and he wanted to practice it for you at his comedy home, NerdMelt. Come watch the cohost of The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail do his thing for a full hour before you see it on TV! With special guests DC Pierson and Joe Mande!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Saturday at 8:00 is Joke Machine!

Three comics battle in LA’s original roast-meets-gameshow juggernaut Joke Machine. Comics perform new material on an assigned topic, enter a wildcard challenge to do anything from crowd work to reviewing a movie, and gain bonus points for relentless slamming– all in under a minute! The show features a changing cast of LA’s best and brightest. October 13th’s epic battle pins Eddie Pepitone vs. Ron Lynch vs. David Taylor! Hosted by Bil Dwyer, announced by Thom Sharpe! Who will survive the comedy blitzkreig?

$8 in advance, $10 at door!

Sunday at 5:00 is The Nerdist Writer’s Panel!

The Nerdist Writer’s Panel series is an informal chat moderated by Ben Blacker (co-creator of The Thrilling Adventure Hour; writer for Supah Ninjas and Supernatural, among others) with professional writers about the process and business of writing. Covering TV, film, comic books, music, novels, and any other kind of writing about which you care to hear.
October 14 join us as we talk with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (West Wing; Drive; Do No Harm), Victor Fresco (creator, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Better Off Ted, The Trouble with Normal) and Jeff Eastin (creator, White Collar and Graceland)! The line-up is subject to change. And as always, proceeds from the live panels benefit 826LA, the national non-profit tutoring program.

Sunday at 7:00 is The Nerdist Open Mic!

Matt Mira of the Nerdist Podcast needs a Day Off, so we decided to give him Sundays at Nerdist Theater. Come watch Mira and Paul Cibis host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material (Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani are frequent drop ins), and the magic that is live comedy. Sign up at 7pm, lottery at 7:30

Monday at 8:00 is Harmontown!

Yup, that’s right, it’s weekly, and it’s a podcast too! Attend a town meeting in a land free of brevity, where Mayor Dan Harmon (creator of Community) and Comptroller Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line is it Anyway) take another small, vodka-soaked step toward colonizing the moon. Evening may include ineffectual rants, songs, shameful stories, special guests (Allison Brie, Donald Glover, and Gillian Jacobs have all stopped in), forehead sweat and repeated exposure to the phrases “like” , “uh”, “sort of” and “you know.” (Subscribe to Harmontown on ITunes today!)

Tuesday at 7:30 is Rachel Bloom is a Triple Threat!

JAZZ HANDS!!! In this musical sketch show, songwriter and comedian Rachel Bloom (Robot Chicken, “Just For Laughs”) plays her alter ego (also named Rachel Bloom) performing a musical theater industry showcase for you that’s so good it’ll make you feel terrible about your own performing abilities! Come see the star of the 1997 Broadway revival of Annie sing songs, dance dances, and rejoice that she’s not kidnapped and being held in a basement anymore!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Tuesday at 9:00 is Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction!

Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction is a comedy show (and soon-to-be podcast) founded in Seattle, created & hosted by Bryan Cook. Each event features 10 comics, writing and performing Erotic Fan Fiction pieces, based on their whims or audience suggestions. It’s really stupid. Come see what Laughspin.Com said “might be one of my favorite comedy shows I’ve ever taken in. Period.” The star-studded lineup features: Matt Braunger, Alice Wetterlund, Virginia Jones, Jan Davidson, Andy Peters, Lisa Beth Johnson, Barbara Holm and more!

$8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Wednesday at 8:30 is The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

This week, Jonah and Kumail welcome James Adomian, Nic Novicki from NYC and College Humor, Streeter Seidell, Mo Mandel, Tom Sibley & Pete Holmes!

Thursday at 8:00 is Nerdist Writer’s Panel Presents Sina Grace’s Not My Bag! Comic Release!

From Sina Grace, former editor of The Walking Dead, the artist of The Li’l Depressed Boy and Amber Benson’s Among the Ghosts, comes a haunting retail hell story like you’ve never encountered! A young artist takes a job at a department store in order to make ends meet… little does he know that he may meet his end in this gothic story for fans of Black Swan, Blankets, and The Devil Wears Prada. Join Sina and his friends Blair Butler, Gerry Duggan, and James Asmus, and Nerdist Writers Panelist moderator Ben Blacker, for the LA release of Not My Bag!
