This Week at Nerdist Theater at Meltdown!

Like girls? We got ’em. Like comedy? We got it! Like movies? We got that too! This week is one of our favorite yet here at Nerdist Theater at Meltdown, and we want to share it with you!

Tonight at 7pm, we have a FREE signing party for the magazine Girls and Corpses!

You know, Girls and Corpses, the best magazine ever? The signing and party will feature TERA PATRICK, WILLIAM LUSTIG and JOSLYN JAMES, and it’s FREE!

Saturday night at 8pm, it’s Pop and Politics with KPFK’s Jimmy Dore!

Join KPFK’s Jimmy Dore and a celebrity panel as they make fun of other celebrities, today’s news makers, and our favorite cultural jackasses, with a raucous blend of stand-up, sketch, and video clips of people saying some of he dumbest shit you’ve ever heard. A hilarious night of laughs, blasphemy and general disrespect! This month’s guests include Frank Conniff of MST3K and David Feldman, writer for Real Time with Bill Maher and The Daily Show. Proceeds to benefit 90.7 KPFK!

$8 if you buy tickets now, otherwise they’re $10 at the door!

Sunday at 5pm, it’s the return of the wildly popular Nerdist Writers Panel!

Spend your Sunday afternoons learning from the best at the Nerdist Writing Series! Join moderator Ben Blacker as he hosts esteemed panelists discussing topics like different types of writing, how they got started, what inspires them, the business side of writing, and more. Panelists will also answer your questions and give some helpful tips and tricks! This series is a must for any hopeful writer in LA, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit 826LA.

Scheduled to appear: Alan Yang (Parks & Recreation), Genny Hutchison (Breaking Bad), Ryan Farley (Cold Case), and Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica)!

Tickets are $15!

Then on Sunday at 7pm, its Matt Mira’s Day Off!

Matt Mira of The Nerdist Podcast needs a Day Off, so we decided to give him Sundays at Nerdist Theater. Come watch Mira and Paul Cibis host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material (Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani have both dropped in), and the magic that is live comedy.

FREE
Monday, August 15th at 8pm, it’s Science Bear, screening their original movie “Sketch”!
Rag tag Canadian sketch comedy troop Science Bear pulls together a completely improvised feature length comedy with nothing but the change in their pockets. In this homage to the world of comedy, we follow Jeffrey Patrick’s struggle to tell jokes “the right way” in a world that laughs at the lowest common denominator. Will he be able to reunite his old comedy troop “Sketch” and finally prove he’s got what it takes? Join Science Bear for an evening filled with live comedy, award-winning shorts, and the Los Angeles Premiere of what some (i.e., their moms) have called the funniest movie they have ever seen.
Watch the trailer here:

And then come on down Monday- tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door!

Tuesday, August 16th at 8pm, we have Two Thumbs Way Down, our raucous bad movie show!

When it comes to movies, there is bad-bad and good-fun-over-the-top bad. Join Eli Olsberg and guests Rory Scovel, Justin Ian Daniels, and Jonah Ray as they celebrate the latter. Each comic brings in a movie of their choice and after watching a clip/trailer from all three, the audience votes as to which one they watch and rip to shreds. Also, if you have a bad movie you want to show off, bring it in for a chance to have it be our movie of choice that night!

Here’s a clip from our July show:

Tickets are just $8 in advance- $10 day of show!

Wednesday August 17th, as always, is The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!

This weekly standup show, hosted by Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani, welcomes Anthony Jeselnik, Sean Patton, John Roy, Fahim Anwar, John Mulaney, Jay Larson, Emily Heller, and Garfunkel and Oates. Last week David Spade dropped in; Don’t you want to see who’ll stop by this week?

$8!

Then on Thursday, August 18th at 8pm, it’s Jackie Kashian’s Dork Forest!

The Dork Forest Podcast is dork on dork dialog, and host Jackie Kashian is interested in whatever you are really really into. Ben Schwartz and Frank Conniff will speak to their love of old Hollywood. They will also meander around a love of everything else. Please join us, as there is room for all in The Dork Forest.

Here’s a promo for the show- watch it and then get your tickets here– just $10!

That’s all for this week, but wait’ll you see what we have planned for next week! A Conan Showcase, Harmontown, and more Sex Nerd Sandra, for starters! See you around NerdMelt, and check out our site, http://NerdMeltLA.com!
