This STREET FIGHTER II Chalk Art Is Totally Badass

Who doesn’t love Street Fighter II, right? It’s a classic video game that just about every gamer out there has played at least once. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that the idea of getting to live in the Street Fighter universe and actually be one of the outstanding fighters from the game has always sounded completely awesome.  Well, actually traveling into the world of a classic game is still beyond the reaches of modern technology, but the team at AWE Me was able to bring the video game to life in a pretty amazing way: chalk art.

Chalk artists can create some startlingly realistic scenes using nothing more than the same material you and I used to draw hopscotch boards on our sidewalks when we were kids, and this is no exception. Using carefully measured lines and a slanted drawing space, chalk artist Chris Carlson not only creates a gorgeous depiction of the game and the character Ryu, but he makes it appear to be three dimensional when you look straight at it (the dimensions get wonky when you look at it from the side).

Of course you can’t just draw a 3-D scene from Street Fighter without getting in on the fighting action yourself, right? Carlson squares up to battle it out with Ryu, but apparently even in chalk form Ryu’s fighting skills are some of the best out there. Carlson is only able to get in one punch before taking a Hadoken right in the gut. It was a valiant effort at least.

While this might be the first time Carlson has been KO’d by his own drawing, this isn’t his first time creating works of chalky art. He’s created amazing 3-D chalk art based on Mario Kart, Jurassic Park, King Hippo from Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, and more. You can find links to his other projects in the video description.

What other games or movies would you like to see Carlson and the team at AWE Me recreate in chalk form? What is your favorite that he’s done so far? Let us know in the comments!
