This STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Fan Comic Will Break Your Heart

Warning: Spoilers follow for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Jump into hyperspace and away if you haven’t seen the movie yet.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens delivers a lot of laughs and one-liners, but it’s peppered with sadness and emotion. The Force is balanced between light and dark in that regard. The pinnacle of sadness is of course when Kylo Ren, a.k.a. Ben, kills his father Han Solo. Everything about that sequence is a punch in the gut, from Ben’s pained expression to Han reaching out to touch his son’s face before falling into oblivion. But think about this: Chewbacca didn’t hesitate to shoot Ben. This is a boy he watched grow up. Ben likely called him Uncle Chewie or something. Thinking about the pain Chewbacca must have felt when he fired his bowcaster at Kylo hurts, and Tyson Murphy captured it in a sweet/heartbreaking comic.

Gggwwwrghhhhhhh.
That’s Shyriiwook for “I can’t deal with this.”

The comic depicts everything I’ve imagined about Chewbacca and Ben’s relationship. Ben probably got jam stuck in Chewie’s fur and maybe decided to give him a haircut once or twice. I think it speaks volumes that he shoots Ben in the side; each shot to a stormtrooper after that is to the head. Like this comic shows, it was a deliberate choice.

Did this comic make anyone else get teary-eyed? Share all your feelings in the comments.

Murphy’s a lead character artist at Blizzard and you can keep up with his work at Tumblr.
