There is a long and time-honored tradition of preparing food that looks like other foods. From the kitschy jello molds with fish in different colors swimming through a turquoise dome to Taco Bell’s breakfast taco that it’s taking all my self control not to call an abomination, chefs, bakers, and their fans have a lot of fun changing ingredients from one form to another. And thanks to the joys of social media, it’s easier now than ever for the big brands that are being idealized and imitated to find these creations and show them off. Case in point:
Imitation is the sweetest form of flattery. Check out this ShackBurger cake (yes, cake!) by @mingmonglie pic.twitter.com/PHYfPzhDB5

It’s really the detail on this cake that makes all the difference. The bun glows with a buttery sheen; the lettuce frosting varies in thickness and texture to give it weight; and the french fries look mouthwateringly fried to perfection. And let us not forget that the baker even went the extra step to create a patterned paper just like Shake Shack’s iconic green and white tray liners.
The cake is the brain child of Natasha Ali, a young woman in Indonesia with a penchant for absolutely gorgeous work in sugar. A little sleuthing through the internet brought me to pictures of her incredible creations on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and I’m quite envious of her talents. From the realistic, like this burger cake, to the fun and fanciful, like her tower of cupcakes for her favorite band, BigBang, everything she creates is both gorgeous and looks delicious.
Now that Ali has made such a beautiful burger, I’m hoping she will branch out into other Shake Shack creations. Specifically, I want a milkshake cake. Yes. Immediately. The whole thing can be frosting! Tell me what you’d like to see her make next in the comments below!
