When AMC’s adaptation of the Garth Ennis graphic novel Preacher hits small screens on May 22, it’s going to light the world on fire. And while I mean that literally and metaphorically, the new promo for the show also means it visually, as a way to lure you into what is sure to be your new favorite show (sorry for the pure bias there, we just haven’t been able to stop thinking about the pilot since we saw it).
Taking a metaphorical cue from the series premiseâabout a conflicted preacher (a.k.a. Jesse Custer, a.k.a. Dominic Cooper) inhabited by a mysterious entity who embarks on a journey to find God (literally) alongside his ex-girlfriend and an Irish vampireâthe image is a simple one with hints and nods at what’s to come. Sure, at first glance it just looks like a bit of flamework, but it’s actually a nod to one of the first WTF-y moments that happens in the pilot. (No spoilers, though â it’s too good to spoil for you.)
The show’s take on blasphemy and morality in a small Texas town is equal parts uproarious, outrageous, and extremely violent (but like, in a really, really fun way). Naturally, we’re drunk with anticipation for the May 22nd premiere.
