This Hardcore Version Of Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ Makes Us Wanna Start A Circle Pit

Another day, another Taylor Swift cover.

However, while a lot of interpretations lean on T. Swizzle’s tender musical moments—like this adorable acoustic mashup courtesy of Louisa Wendroff, which has been blowing up our Facebook feed—our latest 1989-inspired discovery taps into a deeper and darker side of the country-turned-pop star.

I Prevail, a hardcore outfit from Rochester, Michigan, isn’t the group you’d necessarily expect to be inspired by the “Shake It Off” singer, but their cover of “Blank Space” is the stuff nightmares are made of… but, like, in a good way.

I Prevail’s version of “Blank Space” is the perfect appetizer to entice fans into learning more about the group and lead them to the original songs on their debut EP, Heart Vs. Mind, which was released December 17.

In reality, the quartet’s music is more akin to bands like A Day To Remember, Bring Me The Horizon and We Came As Romans, but I Prevail isn’t ashamed of their pop prowess. In fact, over the years, ADTR and WCAS have both contributed songs to the Fearless Records compilation series Punk Goes Pop: A Day To Remember covered The Fray’s “Over My Head (Cable Car)” on volume 2 and We Came As Romans covered Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” on volume 6.

What is it about Tay-Tay that seems to attract all these bearded and beanie’d disciples? Maybe it’s something about how she can make the bad boys good for a weekend.

To learn more about I Prevail and what make the band the “Greatest Gainer” on this week’s Billboard Heatseekers albums chart, check out the band’s Facebook page and follow them on Twitter at @IPrevailBand.

    This is not hardcore.

Covering established hits (well) is a great way for unknown/unsigned bands to get their name out there. There’s a LOT of this out there now. Normandie, another band similar to this, has a great cover of Chandelier. I now have a spotify playlist of them because of that cover

  5. Brian Lane says:

This version is pretty nice but I like the pop punk style of Assuming We Survive out of Southern California and their cover of blank space the best. I,prevail is a great band though and love listening to them

Leslie Simon articles are terrible. Learn to have real interests in things nerdy. These are pieced together articles of popular things seen already on a billion sites that has nothing to do with nerd culture.

I love it when non-metal sites post metal/alt content.  Something about watching them try to reconcile the harder elements of something so out of their scope is amusing. That said, this was pretty good. The cleans fit well. Nothing fancy, but it gelled.

    love it!

Wow, never heard of this band, local too!
To be fair it’s post-hardcore, but close enough for me.
