This Gold and Diamond STAR WARS BB-8 Droid Will Cost You $135,000

Star Wars came from a galaxy far far away to take over the catwalk in New York City earlier this month with the Force 4 Fashion exhibit, which featured Star Wars-inspired fashion that actually appeared functional, like it could be worn by real life humans as they navigate everyday life. What caught our eye about the evening, however, was a magnificent cold BB-8 droid replica that was covered in diamonds.

The luxurious The Force Awakens droid was made by Disney Consumer Products and Kay Jewelers, and the creation process supposedly took around 600 hours. It stands at 4.25 inches, weighs about a pound and a half, is made of 18-carat yellow gold and 18 carats of diamonds (about 860 of them).

If that sounds expensive, that’s because it totally is. The exclusive droid will go up for auction this month and has been appraised at $135,000. Proceeds from the auction will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

At that price tag, it seems like only somebody actually involved with Star Wars could in good conscience enter a bidding war. Maybe George Lucas himself will put a bid in since he recently revealed that he apparently approves of The Force Awakens, announcing that he will attend the Los Angeles and London premieres of the movie.

Or perhaps Harrison Ford, Han Solo himself, might be interested. It actually might not be a great move to give responsibility of such a valuable item to Ford, though, because he does not do well with toys.
