Think You Spotted Every GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Easter Egg? Think Again

Warning! There be spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy in this post. Look away now if you don’t want to know anything about Marvel’s latest cinematic hit (although, if you don’t, why did you click on this link?!).

This past weekend, Marvel’s latest, the space-themed action/adventure film Guardians of the Galaxy, cleaned up at the box office. Now that release weekend’s behind us, attention is now shifting to a much more pressing matter: spotting as many easting eggs that are hidden within the film as humanly possible.

While some – like Howard The Duck – are a bit obvious, there are plenty that only the keenest of keen eyes would have spot. But for those lacking in the master of vision categories, Mr. Sunday Movies has you covered in an all new YouTube video titled “Every Easter Egg In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.”

As we discussed over the weekend, if there’s one thing Marvel loves, it’s easter eggs, and Guardians of the Galaxy is no different. However, while the hunt is fun, there’s something serious the easter eggs represent, and that’s the massive scale the Marvel Cinematic Universe covers! With decades upon decades of source material up for grabs, there’s an endless supply of goodies every filmmaker working on a Marvel film can throw into their tale. Every time something new enters the MCU, its own possibilities become endless because, as is the Marvel way, anyone (or anything) can be a superhero.

Want to go even deeper into Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Marvel Comics lore? Check out this excellent article by Peter Sciretta over at Slashfilm.

Did you spot any easter eggs the video missed? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. Jayar says:

The scene where The Collector is reprimanding his slave (reminding her that her species “has elbows” and to use them) there is a pale being, sleeping in the glass chamber next to her, that resembles the genetically modified vampires from Blade 2, also a Marvel entity.

  2. Erin says:

When the Guardians are getting booked at the Kyln, Rocket’s known connections are listed. Of course Groot is listed, but so is Lylla, Rocket’s girlfriend from Halfworld.

  3. Angela says:

I thought the fight scene at the end where Rocket lined up the ships at ground level to shoot Ronan’s fighters down was very reminiscent of Space Invaders

  4. Diablo says:

I think they were just taking the piss out of everyone with the DUCK.

  5. sam says:

I think the numbers following the subtitles for locations were messages written in leet speech but I’ve only seen the film once so I’m not sure.

  6. Kevin snow says:

I think the Tezzeract, which was shown in the movie is the space gem. It transports people. I think the Aether is the reality gem, because it was going to be used to alter a light universe into a dark universe. Some speculate that the mind gem is in Loki’s staff which now on Earth and in the hands of Hydra. EASTER EGG. It’s actually a reference to “12% of a plan.” That is the same percentage Tony Stark used in the Avengers. Also, when you first see the Collector, look in the boxes behind him. You can see Howard sitting in his box.

  7. John Decker says:

In the first scene in the hospital, the name paged over the loudpeakers is “Dr. Fitzsimmons”.

  8. Mad Theorist says:

I myself believe the gem in the movie to be the space gem, mostly because the power gem is red in color and is most likely the aether from Thor the dark world. The space gem would also allow them to get rid of Ronan for the movie without explicitly killing him off. As it is possible he may have been transported to the negative zone where he waits for the new fantastic four to discover him. This is simply a theory on my part however and could be completely wrong.

    • Chris says:

Kevin Feige has stated that the Tesseract is the Space Gem. The Aether was thought thought to be the Power Gem, but the Orb was revealed to be the Power Gem, so my guess is that the Aether was the Soul Gem.

    • José Antonio says:

Kevin Feige (executive producer of Marvel) already said that we sould not judge the gems by color, since they will probably not have the same ones as in the comics. He also confirmed that the Tesseract IS the space gem. He did not say what gem the Aether is, but many people think it is the reality gem giving the events of Thor 2. The gem they show in guardians looks like it’s going to be the power gem since it was only used for destruction (Although i don’t think they would kill Ronan for good so soon), so who knows). Besides, Fantastic Four rights belong to Fox, not Marvel so the new fantastic 4 are NOT in the same universe as the avengers and Guardians. The same thing happens with Spider-man (Sony) and X-Men (Fox)

  9. Joel says:

When they are in the collectors place, and Rocket walks in front of Cosmo, is that Ultron chilling in a case in the background? It’s a shiny silver robot looking thing that raises its head…

  10. Dave Nevett says:

No mention of the red-caped figure in the Collector’s stash or the latest mention of the Na’vi of Avatar fame (Sif previouly listed them in her rundown of blue-skinned aliens for Coulson in AoS)

  11. JamesDaBeear says:

I would think FOX would have a fit if Gunn did that.

  12. JamesDaBear says:

We only have guesses to what Vision will actually do in the next movie. Ultron’s origin is changing for the movie. Vision’s could as well.

  13. michael jeacock says:

people, THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME TONY STARK BUILT ULTRON!!!! it is not a new idea, it has been done before. see Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow.

  14. Daniel says:

Your life seems so hard. My sincerest condolences.

  15. Lisa says:

    Yeah I was bummed too.
