These Tilt-Shifted Van Gogh Paintings Will Give You DOCTOR WHO Feels

There are a lot of episodes in Doctor Who history that have given Whovians “the feels” and generally broken our hearts, but one that really stand out from the pack is the episode called “Vincent and the Doctor,” where the Doctor and Amy Pond travel back in time to meet with famous painter Vincent van Gogh. The episode is simultaneously heartbreaking and inspiring, as we get to watch Amy and the Doctor interact with the troubled painter, and ultimately take him to see a van Gogh exhibit at a museum. But one of the fascinating things that they do in that episode is tilt-shift his famous works and integrate them into real life to show us the world through Vincent’s eyes.

It’s a cool effect, to be sure, but one that was created by computers. Redditor melonshade decided to give it a shot creating paintings based on van Gogh’s famous works with that tilt-shift twist. The paintings are oil on canvas, and they are nothing short of breathtaking. Even if you aren’t an art or van Gogh fan, you have to admire the artist’s talent to take classic paintings and recreate them in such a gorgeous way. The artist is able to create some new depth to a painting most of us are probably pretty familiar with, and highlight parts of the work we may not have ever noticed.

It’s beyond impressive, and I’d like to think even Vincent van Gogh himself would find it amazing to watch artists who were inspired to take his famous work and show new sides of it. Now we just need to get the Doctor to grab van Gogh again to show him. Check out some of melonshade’s work in the gallery below, and head to Reddit to see all of the amazing paintings!
