Fans of the classic horror first-person shooter, System Shock, will be happy to hear that this gem is making a glorious comeback. Night Dive Studios will be the team to undertake the difficult task of bringing the beloved title up into the new era of video games. As if adding a new layer of paint on an older game wasn’t hard enough, Night Dive Studios’ CEO Stephen Kick has stated that this won’t just be a simple remaster.
In an interview with Fast Company, he revealed that he’s been working with the game’s original concept artist, Robert Waters, to reimagine his work for this brave new world. It was also revealed that console versions are planned. I’m all for this remake if it stays true to the original classic, especially if modern gameplay mechanics are added.
Interestingly, Night Dive Studios is considering making a new entry in the series, but nothing is set in stone yet. “To really do another game in that series is going to take resources and time and commitment that we don’t have, and it’s really not our core business,” said Night Dive head of business, Larry Kuperman, about the prospect of making another System Shock game. It makes sense that this team isn’t too keen on the idea of taking on such a large project, because a lot of their expertise is in remaking titles. But, it’s a good sign that another installment is possible.
Are you excited to get this remake? What new additions would you like to see added? Let us know in the comments below.
