THE X-FILES Season 11 Trailer Teases a Dark Alliance and a New Quest

The truth may be out there, but The X-Files really left us hanging at the end of its six-episode revival last year. At the time, the survival of Fox Mulder and the fate of humanity hinged upon Dana Scully finding their son, William. At New York Comic Con, the first trailer for The X-Files season 11 offered fans a peek past the cliffhanger, but it didn’t offer any direct looks at William. Instead, a familiar face from the past had a dire warning, and one of Mulder and Scully’s closest allies has apparently betrayed them.

Walter Skinner has had his ups and downs with Mulder and Scully, and he’s never been a fan of the Cigarette Smoking Man. But somehow, CSM seems to have Skinner on the verge of openly betraying the human race. Meanwhile, a seemingly healthy Mulder and Scully have been reunited, as a new player joins the search for their son.

Sharp-eyed X-Files fans should spot the brief return of Richard Langley, one of the Lone Gunmen who seemingly recorded a message for Mulder before he died over a decade ago. Or maybe its Langley’s electronic ghost. We can’t rule out the supernatural on this show! There are also signs that Mulder and Scully’s relationship with Skinner will deteriorate, but they still find themselves asking for his help–even though they no longer trust him.

I think this scene from the trailer is showing us a younger version of the Cigarette Smoking Man, and we may be in for more of his backstory than we received in the first ten seasons of the series.

The X-Files season 11 is expected to premiere in early 2018.
