The Witcher Keeps on Witchin’ in THE WITCHER BATTLE ARENA

The Witcher empire – and the world of MOBAs – is going to get a little bigger. While we wait for 2015’s The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, developers CD Projekt RED and Fuero Games plan to launch the 3v3 MOBA The Witcher Battle Arena for iOS, Windows phones, and Android devices later this year.

From the press release:

The Witcher Battle Arena is a fast, fun and accessible MOBA game based in the Witcher universe. Designed with mobile devices in mind, Battle Arena combines great accessibility and a balanced learning curve with complex tactics and a limitless array of skill-based strategies gamers can deploy during each battle. Designed with fairness in mind, the game features no pay-to-win elements and allows players to unlock every piece of in-game content entirely via gameplay.

In the Arena, six heroes battle it out to the death, trying to capture and hold three conquest points in short, intense and action-packed skirmishes. The intuitive system of character progression allows you to create player-tailored character builds and unique item configurations to surprise your friends and stagger your foes. Become legendary characters such as the witcher Letho of Gulet, dwarven adventurer Zoltan Chivay or the mighty sorceress Philippa Eilhart and use their diverse skills to gain the advantage and crush those foolish enough to cross your path.”

Letho and Zoltan appeared in The Witcher 2 as villain and supporting character respectively, so it’s a fair bet we might see other characters from the series pop in. That’s not the only Witcher 2 connection: the Nilfgaardian Arena where the game is set was home to the wave-based combat in The Assassins of Kings, possibly letting Battle Arena serve as a prequel/side-story to that game.

According to the developers, this can be either a solo or team experience, with 3 on 3 combat or a single player versus bots. Battle Arena will be free-to-play and the official page has a few additional characters who you can expect to see in the game, like the Golem, elven rebel Iorveth, evil mage The Operator, and literal dragon lady Saskia of Aedirn.
