The main takeaway from this new trailer for The Walking Dead‘s fifth season? The paranoia and fear are getting jacked up to 11.
And with good reason: not only will Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his people have to survive the walkers, but now, they’ve got monologuing villains from (presumably) Terminus ready to make chow out of them in the new season. And there’s nothing worse than a chatty cannibal. But it doesn’t sound like Rick is ready to retreat, warning that “It’s not over until they’re all dead – they don’t get to live.” And given the look on Lincoln’s face in that scene, Rick means it.
A large part of the trailer’s focus is on the relationship between Rick and his son Carl (Chandler Riggs), who’s springing up right before our eyes. No longer a pint-sized survivor, Carl might have to learn that no matter how well-armed or how well-prepared they are, there’s no safety in this new world.
The fifth season of The Walking Dead will make its debut on October 12 on AMC. Meanwhile, the network is currently planning a December shoot for a “companion” series set in a new location, focusing on another corner of The Walking Dead universe.
Ah! The trailer can’t be veiwed from Oz. Come on, Nerdist, there’s TWD fans Down Under too.
