The Walking Dead is one of the few drama series that still gets to run its full opening credit sequence every week. Even on basic cable, that bucks a trend of trimming TV episodes down to increase the time for advertisements. But this show just wouldn’t be the same without Bear McCreary‘s signature theme; which always sets an ominous tone for the story. And while The Walking Dead theme has been covered many times before, this is the first time that we’ve heard it done with bagpipes!
Via Metal Injection, YouTube artist The Snake Charmer (a.k.a. Archy Jay) has released her take on The Walking Dead music, with a mixture of bagpipes and a metal inspired backing track. On her Facebook page, Jay wrote that “This is exciting to share because we completed production, recording, shooting and editing of this video within 3 days . Huge shout out to my Producer Karan Katiyar for producing this badass track!”
Jay’s Walking Dead cover expanded upon McCreary’s theme, but it came together nicely. And although there are no zombies in this video, it still feels like it belonged to the world of the show.
On her YouTube channel, Jay has previously released a few other bagpipe covers, including her renditions of the themes for Braveheart and Game of Thrones, both of which are well worth a listen. We’re eager to see which theme she’ll cover next!
