THE WALKING DEAD Goes BENNY HILL SHOW In New Comedy Video

Last Sunday on The Walking Dead, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) found Jesus. Or more accurately, Jesus found them and stole their truck before he was briefly subdued…and then he attempted to steal the truck again!

British actor Tom Payne made his Walking Dead debut as Paul Rovia a.k.a. Jesus, a major character from the comic book series by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. While casual Walking Dead fans won’t learn more about Jesus until next Sunday’s episode, they’ve already seen him outmaneuver Rick and Daryl in an unexpectedly silly subplot. At times, the ongoing chase between Jesus and the two survivors even bordered on slapstick.

YouTube user 43eyes has posted a new video that adds “Yakety Sax” to The Walking Dead‘s Jesus chase sequence. Of course, “Yakety Sax” is best known as the theme song for The Benny Hill Show, a British sketch comedy series that was famous for its “hilarious” chases. Given that The Benny Hill Show hasn’t been on the air for over two decades, that reference may be lost on some fans. So, in the interest of history, here’s a classic Benny Hill Show chase for comparison.

While The Walking Dead‘s chase didn’t have sped up footage or a scantily clad woman, it actually does seem like it could have been inspired by The Benny Hill Show.
