THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Boss Talks THE ORIGINALS Crossover

Klaroline fans, you might want to sit down for this.

When The Vampire Diaries and The Originals cross over for a two-episode event in just a few weeks, Caroline’s (Candice Accola King) “ex” Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and current boyfriend Stefan (Paul Wesley) are going to find themselves sitting at the same bar, sharing the same bottle of bourbon, and talking about that same love of Caroline they both harbor. Can you say awkward?!

After screening the midseason premieres of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, The Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries told a small group of reporters that “Klaroline” will be addressed during the crossover.

“We were going to have a Klaroline scene, and then the script was getting too long so we just cut it out. Just kidding!” Dries joked. “We knew we wanted to see Joseph and Paul Wesley together on screen because they’ve had the longest history on these shows, apart from Elijah [Daniel Gillies] and Katherine [Nina Dobrev]. Now they have some… interesting conversation over some bourbon.”

So how will Klaus react when he finds out from Stefan that Caroline is pregnant… with another man’s babies?

Dries answers that with a laugh: “In a very Klaus-like way.”

The Vampire Diaries

It was revealed during the 2016 TCA Winter Press Tour that the next crossover between the two vampire dramas would feature Stefan making his way to New Orleans (in episode 14 of The Vampire Diaries) in need of a certain no-magic-allowed bar for his safety, and sticking it out in the Big Easy (through the following hour: episode 14 of The Originals) in order to help Klaus with something specific to Stefan’s survival.

“Stefan is forced into exile because of his story, which won’t be for a few more episodes, but he ends up going to New Orleans for protection,” Dries elaborated. “And when you’re in New Orleans, the city is like 10 people [laughs], so of course you’re going to run into your immortal enemy and best friend. It’s a pretty fun, rich, interesting story that starts in Vampire Diaries, and successfully transitions into The Originals seamlessly. It worked out. We made the plot work out.”

The CW also debuted the first footage of the upcoming crossover in a promo touting both shows’ big move to Fridays for the rest of their respective seasons. While it’s not much, the very last shot of the trailer shows Klaus sliding a shot over to Stefan, saying, “Welcome to New Orleans, old friend.” Chills.

Check out the trailer below:

Are you excited or nervous to see these old friends/enemies sit down together, knowing that Klaus may very well kill Stefan for making a move on his old flame? Should Alaric (Matt Davis) join the Witness Protection Program before Klaus finds out that he’s the father of Caroline’s babies (granted, not in the classic sense)? Are you glad that Stefan is the one making his way to New Orleans, or do you wish another character was crossing over? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
