The True Story of THE ENFIELD HAUNTING Comes to A&E This October

One of the most famous cases in the history of paranormal investigations (right up there with the 1940s Georgetown possession of a little boy which ultimately inspired The Exorcist) is an incident that happened in London, England during the late 1970s, known today as “The Enfield Haunting,” or “The Enfield Poltergeist.” For a period of about two years, from 1977-1979, two little girls ages 11 and 13, started to experience intense supernatural activity in the home they shared with their single mother and two brothers. It drew the attention of the local media, and eventually, the rest of the world.

The incident also attracted famed paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren, the same couple whose investigations into a haunting in Rhode Island were later dramatized in the hit film The Conjuring. In fact, their experiences with the Enfield disturbances is set to be the subject of next year’s sequel, called The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist.

Before The Conjuring sequel hits theaters, the A&E Network is bringing the story of this famous incident to life this October in a new three part mini-series titled The Enfield Haunting. Written by Joshua St. Johnston (Walking on Sunshine, Sweeney Todd) and directed by Kristoffer Nyholm (The Killing), the new mini-series stars  Timothy Spall (Harry Potter, The King’s Speech) as Maurice Grosse, a rookie paranormal researcher, and Juliet Stevenson (The Village) as his grieving wife Betty. Matthew Macfadyen (Ripper Street) also stars. The series is adapted  from Guy Lyon Playfair’s book This House is Haunted, which draws on extensive documentation, recordings, and witness statements recorded at the time.

The Enfield Haunting episode one, ‘The Awakening,” premieres on October 9 at 10 pm on A&E, with parts two and three set to follow soon after, the perfect start to your #Nerdoween season. You can check out a chilling trailer for The Enfield Haunting in the video above.
