THE TICK, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON Get Full Season Orders at Amazon

Content! It’s all content! Everything is content! While it definitely feels sometimes like an over-saturation of things to watch on a million different platforms, it does offer the chance for a lot of weird titles to get chances they wouldn’t normally. Case in point: on Tuesday, Amazon greenlit three of its recent pilots to series, according to a press release. Among these is the Peter Serafinowicz-starring The Tick, the second live-action series based on the the comic by Ben Edlund. It looks like we’ll be getting more hours of yelling “Spoon!” at the top of our lungs. Didn’t you guys all do that?

The Tick began life as a mascot for local Boston area comic shops in the mid-80s but eventually became an independent comic book series which grew to prominence in 1994 with it getting turned in to a Saturday morning cartoon series. Following its two seasons, it became a short-lived 2001 Fox series starring Patrick Warburton as the Wild Blue Yonder himself. It bodes very well for the property that Amazon is giving it a chance. The pilot, which premiered in August, was written by Edlund and directed by Wally Pfister.

The other two pilots picked up to series run the gamut of types of comedies. I Love Dick has a silly title, but it’s based on a bestselling novel and focuses on a couple (Kathryn Hahn, Griffin Dunne) who move to the intellectual community of Marfa, TX where they meet a man named Dick (Kevin Bacon) who shakes up everything they know about monogamy and relationships. That show is executive produced by Transparent‘s Jill Soloway.

Also picked up is Jean-Claude Van Johnson, a series which stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as a version of himself who goes undercover under the name Jean-Claude Van Johnson and is the world’s most dangerous private contractor. He’s retired, but a chance encounter sends him out of retirement and ready to kick the collective ass of bad guys everywhere. But he still lives in a regular suburban neighborhood and nobody’s the wiser. Such a silly concept and I’m very pleased to get to see more of it.

The three series will air sometime in 2017. Which are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments below!

Check out which shows we’re looking forward to most this fall!
