The TERMINATOR Reboot Finds Its Kyle Reese

With production start looming, the much talked about Alan Taylor-directed reboot of the Terminator franchise has been garnering much attention, mainly in regard to its casting. Most recently, Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke and Zero Dark Thirty actor Jason Clarke were announced as Sarah and John Connor respectively, and in addition to the return of Schwarzenegger, the upcoming reboot, currently titled Terminator: Genesis, has found the final key player in its time traveling quartet.

Kyle Reese, the soldier sent back in time by John to protect his mother, Sarah (and ultimately birth the resistance leader), has been cast, and the actor playing him is Jai Courtney (A Good Day To Die Hard, Divergent). The actor is actually not a bad choice for Reese. There’s definitely an innocence to him, something that really made Michael Biehn’s portrayal of the soldier so iconic, and we all know after A Good Die To Die Hard that the man looks good while firing a gun, something that’s very necessary for a Terminator reboot.

What started as a “oh, come on” project has quickly grown into a fascinating tale of Hollywood franchise building. In addition to this film being the first in a confirmed trilogy, there are also plans to feature a companion TV series, as well as rumors that the new reboots will attempt to line up every currently existing iteration of the franchise into one nice, “clean” timeline. Now if that happens, consider me a believer in the power of time travel reboots.

In the words of Daniel Bryan, “NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!” What’s next, a reboot of The Running Man? The reboots of Robocop and Total Recall sucked. At least Total Recall had the lady with the 3rd boob. Robocop didn’t even have someone saying bitches leave.

‘What started as a “oh, come on” project…’

Still is to me. Why? Why reboot it? What happened to turning Salvation into it’s own trilogy?

  7. Beau Rosser says:

Nothing will be as good as the first two movies and the Sarah Connor Chronicles.
