The SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Team is Working on a New Project!

While the wall-crawling web slinger may currently be stuck in a film rights hell that’s preventing him from playing with his fellow Marvel friends on the big screen, there’s no stopping Spider-Man from having some fun in animated form. At the moment, the Spidey is having a ball on Disney XD in Ultimate Spider-Man, but USM is only the latest animated iteration of Spidey; and for anyone that grew up in the ’90s, we have some news that you’re going to enjoy.

One of the most well known and beloved takes on the character came back in 1994 in the form of Fox’s Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Full of massive serialized arcs and dynamic characters, the ’90s cartoon really was one of the best adaptations of the icon to date. Now, 20 years later, the cast has reunited for a new project, and they’re going to need your help to make it happen.

During a panel celebrating the anniversary over the weekend, head writer John Semper Jr. revealed in the near future, he and the entire cast of the series (including Ed Asner) will be turning to crowdfunding for a new project titled Rocket Men. Reportedly, the new project would “harken back to the retro-pulp style of something like The Rocketeer.” That just sounds delightful doesn’t it? At the moment, there’s no concrete date for when the team will launch their funding campaign, but until they do, Semper promised he would spend the next year honoring the series he made everyone fall in love with on his social media accounts.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series was something special, and to think the team behind it’s going to get back together for a new project not beholden to source material is something we would definitely want to see. It may have been 20 years since the original series, but that’s 20 years for us to remember how much we loved it. So bring it on Semper, we’re ready!

It exists, I believe it’s from a UK distributor but, if memory serves me, I think it’s region-free.

Scratch that. It was a Region 2 edition but is currently unavailable from the Amazon source I saw it on.
