The STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Dubstep Theme Song Nobody Asked For

We’ve said it time and time again: the Star Wars franchise is seriously lacking an iconic theme song. That incidental music by li’l Johnny Williams is cute, but it certainly doesn’t bring the gravitas that the sci-fi series needs—NAY!—demands. China to our rescue! After correcting the pesky mistake of including main characters on their movie posters, they turned to K-Pop icon Lu Han to make a theme song that is sure to top the charts for years to come. We present to you… “The Inner Force”!

Oh boy. Let’s unpack this thing. Most music videos that tie into a film at least somewhat relate to the movie in question (like say, “Bumps Gonna Goose Ya” from the Goosebumps movie), but this is just a smattering of clips from The Force Awakens, interspersed with footage of Lu Han recreating the oh-so-famous Star Wars scene in which everybody dances in an old warehouse. What, you don’t remember that scene? You’re missing out.

Now, with a song in another language, we’d expect something to be lost in translation. Add to that the fact dubstep songs don’t typically go for lyrical prose more intricate than the picking up and subsequent dropping of various beats. Even with that in mind, Lu Han still manages some strange and only vaguely Star Wars-related lyrics.

Tonight I’m gonna rock this place/Shake it to the ground now
Wanna feel that 808/ Make my move at the sound of the beat
Drive your breath with laser light/ Let’s break out of the existing rules
Tonight I’m gonna rock this place/ Get ready to scream

Remember how all the Jedi breathe laser light and politely decline the standing rule system? Oh man, just like in that one scene right after the warehouse dance. Get the extended cut, you guys! With this and really only one other vague reference to The Force, it seems China might be making major changes to more than just the posters. It’s either that or Lu Han wrote the song after hearing about Star Wars secondhand from someone’s nana.
