Squads Collide in a MONSTER/SUICIDE SQUAD Mash-Up

Not too many movies have the word ‘squad’ in the title, so it’s pretty amazing there have been two that pertain to our interests. Of course, we’ve got David Ayer‘s hugely anticipated Suicide Squad—based on the DC Comics team-up of some of their universe’s most baddest (and baddest ass) villains like Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Killer Croc, among others. And if your nostalgia hat is on, you’ll know there was a 1987 horror comedy called The Monster Squad which saw a group of kids have to fight off the likes of Dracula, a werewolf, a mummy, the Creature (legally not from the Black Lagoon), and befriend Frankenstein‘s monster. So, why wouldn’t we want those two put together?

YouTuber thatmattcaronguy has done an incredibly accurate riff on the Suicide Squad theatrical trailer—set to the glorious operatic camp of Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody“—featuring expertly cut scenes from The Monster Squad. The trailer would be awesome enough just by adding the music to it, but it’s also paced and cut as close to the new film’s trailer as its possible to be. Don’t believe me? Here are the two trailers right next to each other.

It’s even more impressive when you look at them side-by-side: Boomerang and the werewolf guy match up astonishingly well, as do the Fish Creature and Killer Croc. And even though he’s probably not going to match up the same way in the actual movie, Jared Leto‘s the Joker and Duncan Regehr’s Dracula may as well be twins. Let us never forget that Dracula calls a five-year-old girl the B word in that movie, nor that there’s a treatise about whether or not wolfman’s gots nards. I truly miss ’80s movies sometimes.

Suicide Squad will be in theaters in August, but The Monster Squad will be in our hearts forever.
