THE SHINING-Themed Pop-Up “Redrum Parlor” Coming to LA

We’ve seen some very cool movie-themed pop-up bars show up in Los Angeles in last few years, most notably the Scum and Villainy Cantina and the Tim Burton-themed Beetle House. But we’ve just found out, via We Like LA, about an all new pop-up bar that sounds just as cool… although no where near as whimsical as those other two. This bar will be based around none other than Stanley Kubrick’s horror masterpiece The Shining. Yes, getting a room at the Overlook Hotel might not be in the cards for you, but now is your chance visit the Redrum Parlor Speakeasy in Burbank, California, which may just be the next best thing.

Based entirely on the Kubrick’s take on the story for the big screen adaptation, and not Stephen King’s original novel (so no living topiary animals, sorry), this bar is being brought to us by the Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum. The organization has hosted several spooky and horror themed  art shows, including tributes to celebrated horror author H.P. Lovecraft. On display now through May is an art show paying homage to Kubrick’s 1980 masterpiece, and as part of this show, fans will get the chance to visit the Redrum Parlor Speakeasy.

As fans of the film remember, the slowly-going-mad Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) drowns his sorrows at The Gold Room, which, to anyone else, is a completely empty room without a drop to drink in sight. But Jack is catered to by the creepy bartender ghost named Lloyd, who encourages his madness. Later in the film, the Gold Room hosts a party of hundreds of ghosts in 1920s attire.

Mystic Museum will recreate The Gold Room with live music, DJs, magicians, and actors portraying Jack and Wendy Torrance and Lloyd the bartender. Guests are encouraged to dress up in 1920s attire or outfits inspired by The Shining, but costumes are not required. The Redrum Speakeasy Parlor will be open on March 10, March 23, April 13, and April 28 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $75 and include themed food and cocktails plus a novelty whiskey glass. This is definitely one horror fans won’t want to miss out on.
