The SERIAL Rom-Com Parody We All Knew Was Coming is Here

From that first collect call, we knew what maybe she didn’t: Sarah Koenig had it baaaaad for Adnan Syed, the guy at the center of her This American Life spin-off podcast, Serial. And now — at long last! — that undeniable tension between them has been parodied in the genre most befitting of their unlikeliest of bonds: the romantic comedy!

Created by actor Honora Talbott, the clip is at its most clever when working its rom-com-y ways into the snippets from Serial itself. With Talbott in a Koenig wig and a be-jumpsuited Adnan Syed stand-in at her side, the two play into the sometimes straight-up high school-y emotions that sometimes felt at play when Koenig would talk to Syed via their many collect calls. Feelings are felt, things are said, and when these two crazy kids try and make it work against all odds — and possibly-maybe murderous tendencies.

There’s even a fun cameo from Jay (because of course there is. I mean what is his deal, right?!) and Ira Glass, both of whom seem seriously perplexed by the heated goings-on between our journalist and potential murderperson. But hey, who are we to judge, right? We can’t choose who we love, after all. That stuff’s just natural.

Now all of this might be a joke to Talbott, but let’s be real: you know — you KNOW you know it, too — that every major studio is currently either trying to a.) buy the film rights to the Serial story itself, or b.) trying to come up with an analogous tale to be rolled into production tout de suite. I mean they have to be, right? This is what the Hollywood machine does!

I just hope in the big-time version we find out once and for all if Adnan did it.

OK, who here thinks Sarah and Adnan are in love? Let us know your speculatory thoughts in the comments.
