The Rundown on PlayStation’s Paris Games Week Conference

After a pretty successful showing at TGS, PlayStation hosted another jam-packed press conference during Paris Games Week. While most of the titles were ones we already knew about, there were a few surprises here and there. During the briefing, Sony highlighted their exclusive relationship with several third party developers, spent quite a bit of time discussing PlayStation VR, and announced a couple of new titles. Just in case you missed any of it, we’ve got a full round-up of all of the announcements, trailers, and details revealed during the event. Enjoy.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies “The Giant” trailer

Fans of COD’s Zombies mode, rejoice! PlayStation opened the press conference by showing off a brand new trailer for a new story called The Giant. Though it was weird that the Japanese Giant kicked off the press conference with a third party title, I think it’s important to point out how big a get Call of Duty is for PlayStation. It means a lot that the franchise that seems like it’s been devoted to Microsoft for so long made the jump and shook hands with Sony for Black Ops III. Black Ops has always been my favorite of the bunch, so I’m pretty stoked for the game’s launch on November 6.

New Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer

Following in COD’s wake, was Sony’s other heavily touted third-party relationship with EA and DICE’s up coming title Star Wars: Battlefront. With Star Wars hype at an all time high right now, and the title’s release less than a month away, the developer showed off a new trailer during Sony’s conference. In it, we see Princess Leia, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Palpatine and more. For more on the announcement, check out our trailer above and our full post (linked below)

Capcom releases new Street Fighter V Trailer, Dhalsim announced.

We’ve had a ton of Street Fighter V character announcements over the past year, so it makes sense that Capcom would announce yet another competitor during Sony’s press conference. The title–which is confirmed for a February 16 release date in North America and Europe–will be bringing our favorite Yoga Master Dhalsim back. He’s sporting a brand new look and several new abilities.

Additionally, Capcom also revealed that six additional characters will be released  post launch. The developer, however, is straying from the paid DLC trend and will be releasing the characters completely free of charge. All you’ll need is in-game currency.

Tekken 7 is coming to PS4 and PlayStation VR

Well this was certainly a surprise. After officially announcing Tekken 7, and releasing a brand new trailer, Sony squeezed in the announcement that the game would be coming to PlayStation VR. While they didn’t reveal much about how it would all work, it’s interesting to think about. They also stressed the fact that the franchise is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary and that the latest chapter would “continue the fight amongst the Mishima clan and it’s newest member: Kazumi Mishima.”

Battleborn gets another trailer

Although we didn’t really learn any new information about Gearbox’s upcoming FPS title Battleborn, they did show off a new trailer–which you can check out above. To be quite honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of what I had the opportunity to play. Hopefully the gameplay is more exciting once it launches  on PS4, Xbox One and PC, next year, on February 9.

Wonderstuck announces Boundless

The team at Wonderstruck announced a new title called Boundless and accompanied it with a trailer (above) showcasing the game. The title, which is described as an open-world sandbox universe, will be coming to both the PS4 and PC. What’s more is that it will be cross-platform, allowing everyone to play in a single online universe (similar to Minecraft). In the above trailer, characters are shown teleporting to other worlds through various portals. You will be able to claim land, invite friends to form a guild and so much more.

Hello There unveils Avicii Vector

Hello There announced and released a trailer for a title called Avicii Vector. It is described as a multiplayer music game, which offers a seamless fusion between gameplay, graphics and music. As the name indicates, the developer has teamed up with Avicii on the project. If you like rhythm games, this might be your jam. Check it out above.

No Man’s Sky gets new trailer, and is set to release June 2016

Well, I guess Hello Games wasn’t planning on releasing No Man’s Sky today after all. After releasing a brand new trailer during PlayStation’s conference, the developer slipped in the news that the game won’t be launching until next year. June 2016 to be exact. Bummer! For more on the announcement, check out our full post (linked below).

Housemarque announces Matterfall

Resogun and Super Stardust developer Housemarque revealed a PS4 exclusive title called Matterfall. While the above trailer doesn’t show off any gameplay,  it gave us a sneak peek at the art style and setting. We can’t wait to see more.

Ratchet and Clank game gets brand new Trailer

Following a new trailer for the film last week, Insomniac gave fans a closer look at their upcoming game, which is set to release on April 29, 2016. Everything is looking clean, gorgeous, and most importantly, hilarious. We can’t wait to get our hands on this.

Guerrilla games demos Horizon Zero Dawn

Guerrilla’s upcoming post, post apocalyptic title Horizon: Zero Dawn also got some stage time during Sony’s press conference. While we were disappointed that we had already seen what they showed off during a behind-closed doors demo at E3, the game does look good. It’s nice to see the developer doing something entirely different from Killzone. For more on what was shown, check out our full E3 impressions.

Driveclub Bikes announced

Evolution Studios also announced Driveclub Bikes and released a trailer (above). After the issues they had with Driveclub, I was surprised to hear the announcement. It’s hard to tell whether folks who were disappointed with Driveclub will dig this. Racing around on a motorbike does look like quite a bit of fun. If this looks like something you’d be into, you will be able to download it today.

New Gravity Rush 2 Trailer revealed.

Considering the fact that Gravity Rush 2’s official announcement was one of my favorite moments of Sony’s TGS conference, I was pretty happy to see the game make an appearance at Paris Games Week. The developer released a new trailer (above), which showcased Kat’s two new gravity manipulation methods, and the ability to tag-team to take down massive bosses. The title is set to launch in 2016 for PS4.

Naughty Dog shows off Uncharted 4 multiplayer.

When Naughty Dog’s Christophe Balestra stepped on stage during Sony’s conference, I was hoping he had another campaign trailer to show off. But, instead, he talked a bit about Uncharted 4’s multiplayer and launched a new trailer. For more on what was announced, check out the trailer above and read our full post (linked below)

Media Molecule showed off Dreams, Beta Coming to PS4 in 2016

When Media Molecule, the team behind Little Big Planet, announced Dreams at E3 this year, we were intrigued, and impressed by how creative it was. While they didn’t cover the creation aspect–which they said would be covered later on–the developer did do an on stage demo (above) of the title. Additionally, they revealed that a beta would be available some time next year on the PS4.

RIGS Mechanized Combat League

Segueing into VR, Sony showcased RIGS Mechanized Combat League with a new trailer (above). They game is described as a competitive VR action title set in the year 2065. RIGS is the sport of the future. Players will be able to take control of mechanical RIGS and go head to head with players all around the world.

New VR Game. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

If you’ve read our review, checked out our interview with composer Jason Graves, or watched us play the entire game on our 24 hour Extra Life charity stream this weekend, you know how much we love us some Until Dawn. While there were rumors that the title was going to get it’s own VR experience, the folks at Supermassive Games took to the Sony stage during Paris Games Week to officially unveil Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, which they describe as a rollercoaster ride/shooter experience. It looks to be an on-the-rails shooter, which they noted will boast the impactful choice system the game is known for. It looks absolutely terrifying, and we can’t wait to play it.

Crytek unveils PlayStation VR title Robinson: The Journey

Next up, Crytek revealed a brand new title called Robinson: The Journey. The above video shows a player navigating a dinosaur-filled world by following a tiny bot’s directions. From what we’ve seen so far, the graphics are absolutely stunning. If you ever wondered what it was like to walk with the dinosaurs, this looks like the game for you. Seeing the scale of trees, and jurassic beasts from the first person perspective courtesy of PlayStation VR is impressive to say the least.

 Rebellion’s Battlezone gets trailer

It seems they had quite a few VR games to bring to the table this week. Here’s the trailer they showed off for a Rebellion’s VR title Battlezone. The game will reportedly release on the PC and will support Oculus Rift and HTC Vive as well. We’ve yet to receive a release date, but the colorful footage the developer showed off looks like a delight. Those who are familiar with Atari’s 1980 tank title by the same name are in for a treat.

PlayStation VR titles shown off in sizzle reel.

Sony has really been pushing their VR peripheral. The title’s they’ve shown off so far look great, but it’s hard to tell what they’re going to play like until you slip the headset on and try it out for yourself. Check out the sizzle reel above to see what’s on it’s way to PlayStation VR.

Poliphony Digital announces Gran Turismo Sport

Considering the fact that it’s been two whole years since we’ve seen the Gran Turismo series–with Gran Turismo 6 releasing back in 2016–it was exciting to see Polyphony Digital at Sony’s Paris Games Week Press conference. Instead of announcing Gran Turismo 7, as many probably assumed, the developer unveiled a title called Gran Turismo Sport. Details are sparse at the moment, but the developer did emphasize the online racing feature of the game, and explained that winners of said tournaments would be recognized by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile). Additionally, the game will be compatible with PlayStation VR. Beta testing is set to begin early next year for “everyone in the game community.”

Wild Sheep Demos WiLD

Last year, Michel Ancel (the creator of Rayman) and the folks at Wild Sheep unveiled a title called WiLD. Though it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive. Luckily, the developer hit the stage during Sony’s Paris Games Week press conference to show off an extended slice of gameplay from the game. The game highlights the relationship between man and nature; allowing the player to possess various wild animals, and call upon deities for help. After suffering a snake bite, the player shown off in the video uses an eagle, bear, rabbit, and even crows to aid him in his trek to the Snake deities summoning location. With each animal boasting a different behavior/ability (i.e. eagle can spot objects, and swoop down and pick them up), it looks like the player will have several ways to solve problems.

Quantic Dreams announces Detroit

Well look what we have here! Quantic Dream announced a new PlayStation 4 exclusive called Detroit and we couldn’t be more excited. Back in 2012, before the developer even released Beyond: Two Souls, they launched a PS3 tech demo titled Kara. In it, an android discovered she could feel emotions. Those who tried it out were moved by the experience, but were curious about what happened to her after she left the factory. Detroit is the result of that question. Finally out in the real world, Kara realizes how terrible it is, and decides to escape. The game looks gorgeous as far as the graphics are concerned, but at this point we don’t know what actual gameplay is going to look like. Our only hope is that it doesn’t turn out to be as disappointing as their last game. On a side note, I don’t know what it is about developers and putting AI characters in Detroit (cough* Deus Ex cough*) but we are totally digging the concept.

That’s it for our recap of PlayStation’s Paris Games Week Press conference. Which game are you most excited to check out? Let us know in the comments below, join the conversation on Facebook, or send me a tweet @sam3214!
