The Rumors are True, Amazon is Looking To Reboot THE TICK… With Ben Edlund!

Just as the holiday weekend was beginning, we got hit with two major announcements regarding possible television reboots for some fan favorite properties. The first was word that Fox was planning to put together a new version of The Greatest American Hero with The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and the other, perhaps more noteworthy news, was a rumor that Amazon was looking into creating a new version of the famed The Tick property with original star Patrick Warburton and creator Ben Edlund. Well, as of today, that rumor is no longer a rumor as Ben Edlund himself took to twitter to clear the whole thing up:

You read that right! At least for the moment, the news is true and the powers that be have decided it’s time for the character meant to be nothing more than a superhero spoof to make a glorious return to the small screen. As our previous report explained, there are currently no details on when the series will be put into production, or what its plot will entail, but the fact that Edlund decided to make things official is a good sign.

When the original series premiered 15 years ago, the world was a very different place and not many people understood exactly what tropes were being spoofed. But now, in a post-Marvel world, superheroes are so mainstream that this could be exactly what we need to have some non-Marvel/DC-related fun with the genre again. Also, who doesn’t want to see Chairface Chippendale finally brought to life?
