Just as the holiday weekend was beginning, we got hit with two major announcements regarding possible television reboots for some fan favorite properties. The first was word that Fox was planning to put together a new version of The Greatest American Hero with The Lego Movieâs Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and the other, perhaps more noteworthy news, was a rumor that Amazon was looking into creating a new version of the famed The Tick property with original star Patrick Warburton and creator Ben Edlund. Well, as of today, that rumor is no longer a rumor as Ben Edlund himself took to twitter to clear the whole thing up:
Yes for now suffice it to say the dream of a new live-action Tick is being pursued with vigor #bringbackTheTick

You read that right! At least for the moment, the news is true and the powers that be have decided itâs time for the character meant to be nothing more than a superhero spoof to make a glorious return to the small screen. As our previous report explained, there are currently no details on when the series will be put into production, or what its plot will entail, but the fact that Edlund decided to make things official is a good sign.
When the original series premiered 15 years ago, the world was a very different place and not many people understood exactly what tropes were being spoofed. But now, in a post-Marvel world, superheroes are so mainstream that this could be exactly what we need to have some non-Marvel/DC-related fun with the genre again. Also, who doesnât want to see Chairface Chippendale finally brought to life?
Are you guys ready for a new Tick? Let us know in the comments below.
Huge fan of The Tick, American Maid, and Die Flätermaus! I’d LOVE to see them again!
Loved the original comic, loved the cartoon series, and loved the live action series. I’m hoping we’ll get to see a live action version of the Sewer Urchin this time!
Great news. I was a fan of the cartoon and the series both. If the same actor is playing “Tick” i am all in.
Amazing. I loved the original cartoon, the love action and the comics. I would LOVE to see this happen. Barry Sonnenfeld did a great job. @doug Motel – you all were perfect!
SPOOOON!!!!
Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!
You have to get the right actors. Warburton was PERFECT for The Tick, but the others… eh, not so much.
Gee thanks 🙁
This was a great show to work on. Thanks Nerdist for using that photo of me and Patrick. I hope they bring it back!
Thought you were all terrific. I loved the whole assembly. I often wondered how many times they made you fall over doing that scene.
Batmanuel is a terrible thing to waste.
the world was never ready but i’d be so happy if they’d give it another go. it seems about as close to the best time ever.
I liked the animated version better but will give a live action reboot a try
I was ready for live-action Tick when they canceled him.
