The Rock Fights Mythical Creatures in New HERCULES Trailer

Every year comes with it genre regulars: you got your action/sci-fi with Edge of Tomorrow, your superhero stuff with Captain America: The Winter Solder, your action/comedy with 22 Jump Street, and of course what kind of movie year would it be without a little sword and sandals sweetness? Enter Hercules, the new Brett Ratner film starring Mr. Modern Day Action himself, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

There’s been mostly silence on the demi-god front since the last TV spot was released some months ago, but that changes today with an all new trailer that features a whole bunch of new footage and mythical beasts:

Ratner is a fascinating case study. He’s had his downs for sure, but when he’s up, he’s up. Red Dragon, Rush Hour, there are even moments of X-Men: The Last Stand that are absolutely fantastic and prove that, given the right material, the man’s actually fairly competent.

That said, there’s no telling what Hercules will become when it hits theaters July 25th, but we will say this: Dwayne Johnson has earned our trust at this point. Just remember, the last time we were in this odd “I don’t know how this is gonna turn out” situation with him was Pain & Gain, and that ended up being, arguably, the best performance of the man’s entire career; shame on the Oscars for not recognizing the greatness of Paul in that movie.
