THE PREDATOR Cast on How The Sequel Evolves the Mythos

When it was first announced that Shane Black was going to be making a brand-new Predator movie, my eyebrow raised so high, it nearly left my forehead and ascended into the stratosphere. While I’m a big fan of Black’s filmography (and deeply dismayed by his recent casting choices), the idea of bringing Yautja Prime’s deadliest hunters back into the limelight threw me for a loop. Yet as the film’s production wore on, it became increasingly clear that it wasn’t a remake of the 1987 original, but a deconstruction of the first film and an attempt to evolve the franchise with new lore, more menacing monsters, and a brand new ensemble of towering beefcastles to do righteous battle with the Predator.

To find out why now was the right time for a new Predator film and how the filmmakers attempted to advance the long-gestating storyline, Nerdist‘s Hector Navarro got himself to the choppa and flew to Toronto where he sat down with stars Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, and Boyd Holbrook to pick their brains about the action-comedy sequel.

As for where The Predator will go from here, that remains to be seen if it can take home the biggest prize of all: #1 at the box office on its opening weekend. Considering what our critic Katie Walsh had to say about the film in her review, it may be The Predator‘s most challenging battle yet.
