THE POWERPUFF GIRLS to Return in 2016

Last millennium, one of the best cartoons around was Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls. The year was 1998 to be exact, and Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken was riding high with one of the other best cartoons around in the late ’90s, Dexter’s Laboratory. The Powerpuff Girls won 2 Primetime Emmys in their original run and went on to have a movie and a few TV specials. So, Cartoon Network, in what will likely be a great move, is bringing back Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup for a Powerpuff Girls reboot in 2016.

Rob Sorcher, Cartoon Network chief content officer remarked, “The original ‘Powerpuff Girls’ was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide. We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”

Cartoon Network is a much different place than it was in 1998 or even 2005 when the Powerpuff Girls, as a series, came to an end. Adult Swim is more popular than ever and live action programming now exists where there used to be cartoons exclusively. Still, 2016 should be a more than welcoming time for a new Powerpuff Girls considering the show’s now-adult original fans, as well as a brand new young audience.

There’s no official word whether all the original voice actors will return, but it would be surprising if there were any replacements considering how the cast returned for the CG TV special Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed that premiered earlier this year.

Are you excited to get another dose of Chemical X? Let us know in the comments below.

They made them SOOOOOOOOOOO cheesy! I actually hope they go back to the old animation style for this, but since it’s a reboot, I very much doubt it.
