The POKÉDETECTOR Smartwatch App Will Change POKÉMON GO Forever

We can all agree that Pokémon GO is pretty damn great. Not only is it fun catching ’em all IRL, but it’s also cool because it encourages everyone to explore the great outdoors. There’s only one problem: you have to be glued to your phone screen the whole time so you don’t miss out on rare Pokémon. Luckily, there’s a solution for this! Introducing the PokéDetector app for Android Wear smartwatches (via Kotaku). This nifty little download will alert you when a pocket monster is close enough to catch.

The app actually works without a smartwatch, but makes so much more sense when tethered to one. We can finally leave our phones in our pockets without worrying about missing out on rare monsters. The app will even tell you what is nearby, so you’ll know if it’s even worth pulling your phone out (I seriously don’t need another Pidgey).

A map that will show you which Pokémon are around your area is also provided in the app, which is handy when planning which direction you’re going to travel in. So even if you don’t use it for the alerts, it’s worth the download. I’m sure Nintendo and Niantic won’t love this app considering they’re going to be releasing an official bracelet that alerts you when something is nearby. But for everyone else, it’s a dream come true.

Unfortunately the PokéDetector isn’t perfect. There is a slight chance that your account might get banned for using it since it does technically utilize unofficial Pokémon GO code. This is why you should connect the app to a secondary GO account. The notifications will still come in, and you don’t have to worry about your main account getting banned.

I’m still waiting for an app that will notify me about monsters without needing to have Pokémon GO draining all the juice out of my phone, but the PokéDetector is a step in the right direction.

Are you guys still playing Pokémon GO? What’s your rarest Pokémon? How much distance have you logged into the game so far? Do you have any battery saving tips while catching ’em all? What was your best catch at Comic-Con? Let us know in the comments below.
